I'll bet this is for the benefit of the surgeon as well. If they touch his brain, and start hearing Li'l Wayne, they know to back off that part.

I've seen reports on surgeries like this years ago - I think one of the first was a guitarist who had a brain tumor. He played as they removed parts of the tumor then probed the next area. If his playing started to be affected, they knew they couldn't remove that part of his brain.

I believe it's a pretty standard technique to have the patient participate in some cerebral activity during surgery to provide realtime feedback.

I wonder if he charged the surgeon admission?
