Now I’ve seen it all :-/

I'm in the in between generation...

...those a few years older than me screamed their lungs out at the Beatles in the early sixties - and didn't hear a bit of the music.

...those younger than me all have brain damage from banging heads in the mosh pits - and can't remember the music (or their own names).

My friends and I would go to a concert, SIT and listen to the music, clap/stand at the END of a song, and SIT back down. We heard the music. We remember the events.

My tickets to DT a few months ago were "$65." When I go to check out and pay, they're $96.55. $30 freakin dollars of add on fees.:mad::mad: I'd rather wait in line like the old days, than pay some clowns junk fees. There are some groups I'd like to see, but wouldn't pay top dollar for close seats etc. since it's summer the concerts are non-stop now... I saw some $30 tickets to some shows and went to buy a couple. Same thing. $30 tickets end up costing $60!!! "Processing charge?" "Convenience fee?" Screw you!

Seriously... I'd probably go to 3 times as many concerts if these "fees" were not on every ticket. It's not that I'm broke, but I"m also not rich and when I can spend $30-$50 for myself or maybe some of these groups $60-$100 for my wife and I, I would do it often. When you add another $30 per person in fees, it because more than I want to spend for groups that I don't "love" or that I know are not in their prime, etc. Add $10-$15 to park, and suddenly just 3-4 concerts = an MT15!

IKR! It should be illeagal...seriously! Steve and I were ranting abut this same thing a few weeks back. I ended up paying 70 bucks for just my ticket! He wasn't sure if Chris and rhe guys got a certain percentage of the fee or not...I wanted to see them live, so I bit the bullet and just paid their ransom. I still snatched up a couple of tour t-shirts. As far as know the merch is where a lot of of their revenue comes from...again, IMHO a resonable handling fee would.acceptable but equal to the face value is just wrong.

Unless my son’s band is playing, I don’t go to concerts. I see no point in going to a concert, having to wear earplugs to solve the decibel problem caused by FOH “mixers” who cannot mix, and therefore not hearing what I supposedly paid to hear, which is rarely comparable to the recordings in the first place.

And there are the boors and other booger-eating morons.

I like seeing my son’s band perform, obviously. So I’m a concert specialist. ;)

Didn't read the entire thread, but I know what you mean. I'm part of the "oregon trail" generation. Between gen x and millennials. So I see both sides of the fence to some degree, but also know when it's time to put the phone away.

Funny story before the phones took over. So around 2001 I'm in college and in the marching band. They had a great music program for a smaller school. Always having some really cool concerts. Of which music majors are required to go to basically every one, and write a report about it. I wasn't a music major, but when the brazillian guitar quartet shows up, you go. It's free. Why not?

So it's in a cool little internal amphitheater like room. I think it holds 200 or so. Great acoustics. I'm setting in the middle about halfway back. It was so cool hearing the melody as they passed it back and forth from left to right. Well there was a couple of people in the front row talking during the performance. I couldn't hear them too well, but it was obvious and rude. Finally about 3 songs in one of them looks at them and say something like, "you may have noticed this room has very good acoustics. So not only can you hear us very well, we can hear you just as well, and unless you want me to tell the audience what you've been discussing, I ask that you refrain from talking for the rest of the evening." They turned red and didn't say another word. It was epic.

We remember the events.

Never got loaded before a show. I remember something about pretty much all of the shows I've seen (and it's been a lot).

I may have told this here before...

First concert I ever went to w/my buddy (who I now see about 20 shows/year with) - 1982, The Who. We parked in the upper lot at the arena and walked down the steps to the lower lot to get to the arena. As we're passing through the lot, we see a guy taking a leak in the lot, but not discretely. Few more steps, we see his buddy doing the same thing - again, not discretely. We realize they're peeing in such a way that their hitting a common landing zone. As we crossed into that aisle, we finally see what's going on. Their buddy is passed out, and they're peeing in the lot uphill from him, and letting gravity do its thing.

My buddy said, "Isn't that great? If the dude wakes up in time, he's going to sit through the show smelling like p!ss, if he's even aware of what's going on around him. Hell of a way to see the Who for the last time." (We didn't know they'd still be touring 35 years later.)

Dang Lee B.! You made that number one reason your b!tch!

* I stand corrected* the dude in the skinny jeans was clearly performing the "headlong tilting windmill" with a twist...AND a kick to the face...what a classic. Nice catch, good eye dude! :D
Lol, I just plain shouldn’t post after midnight...

Hahaha! I'm the same...my rather infamous "after midnight posts" have become sort of a "thing" according to @DreamTheaterRules ...I am an insomniac that apparently has moments of "violent lucidity" I never have recollection of these less than flattering rants...so yeah...being blackout sleep deprived is a gift...as long as a few folks get a giggle (and I don't have the FBI knocking on my door) it's totally worth it...;)

Yo home fries, it’s supposed to be “Silent Lucidity!” Not “violent lucidity.”

I think we have identifed a problem and are headed towards a real breakthrough in your therapy!

My wife and I went to a sevendust show a number of years ago. They absolutely ruled the stage. Everybody was up out of their seats goin crazy.

I made my wife remove her bra right there.....nobody noticed........a never looked at my phone that night. I clearly remember everything that happened.

I am a luck fella.

Another breakthrough! If you'll leave your pants on, I won't make you wear the handcuffs.

But he won't stop you from wearing them, either!

Actually I should reconsider that because we all know he has a thing for redheads. So Scott, handcuffs or ankle shackles, your choice
I guess I haven’t seen it all...and I’m thankful for that.:eek::D

I shot way more than I feel comfortable with to be honest, using precisely the same method... but when the heck are we ever gunna see AVM performed live again? Though, I support EJ (merch & music directly) and have seen him more than any other artist, in multiple states, so I don't feel too awful. Seriously, I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I hadn't shot some sequences.
I’ll admit, I have a couple videos of EJ at NAMM.
