At rehearsal last night I noticed that my neck pickup had worked it's way free and fell into the body of my guitar. I guess, since that is the area of my normal strumming position, that I have banged up against that height adjustment screw enough times to have loosened it up.

So, I took the opportunity to wipe her down real good since I had to pull the pup anyway. Good ol' USA D2's

Noticed a little fret wear in the "cowboy chord" area. Guess you can tell that I am the rhythm guy in the band.....lol

A second issue that I found was that one of the saddle intonation screws had also worked its way free. Surprisingly, according to my tuner, it isn't really out of intonation. Which, is odd to me. Open string and at the 12th fret both show "e". I will still need to order one and pop it back in there. Wouldn't want to lose that spring too as a result of it not being held in.

Went to the PRS site to set the pup height to factory specs. Tuned her up, and she plays well. ALWAYS something right before a gig. (We play another Christmas Village set this coming Saturday in Philadelphia).

Anyway. That minor surgery is over with. Now to stretch out these new strings.

EDIT: Since I was in the cavity anyway, I ran the MODCAT just for fun (I emailed PRS when I got this to have them tell me the specs from the serial as it did not have case candy).

:eek::eek::eek: I would normally say it probably just worked it's way loose over time, but judging form the look of the neck pickup cover... o_O Do you really hit the pickup and screw that often with the pick?

I believe that's why they recess the pickup adjustment screws on the pickup frame. Another innovation. It happened to me once, years ago with my 1990 CUST24. Not at a gig... at home practicing. Now I check screws and stuff during string changes.

BTW. Beautiful Guitar!!!!

Yeah man. Been playing PRS since the early 2000s. The knobs are in a place where I don't strum much near that bridge to avoid hitting them and changing my volume. So, over the years, I have just gotten used to strumming over the neck pickup.

Yeah, so strum position affects tone so I strum everywhere from right up from the bridge, to literally up around the 12th fret depending on what I'm going for. I was more wondering if you strum so deep you hit the pickup, pickup screw etc. while you're playing. Seems you really couldn't be, as it would make noise to hit the pickup with the pick (unless you're in bridge only mode) but you mentioned hitting the screw and the pickup cover looks marked as well, so I wondered...

Apparently often enough to have worked it free. I mean, it is basically the same area, that on an acoustic, gets worn away eventually if it doesn't have a pick guard from the sound hole on down the body.

A slightly longer set of pickup screws can help if you are setting height that it’s at the end of the screw. Some people also give the end of the screw that sticks out past the pickup leg a little squeeze with a needle nose pliers to keep it from accidentally unthreading.

I'm not familiar with the MODCAT decoder and messing with a PUP makes me nervous to be honest.
