I received the above pedal last Friday but today is the first time to really put it through its paces. I preface this review saying this is strictly my personal opinion. I used my Mesa 5:50 Express plus and the 89 CE. The pedal has a separate clean and overdrive setting. My only complaint would be you can't switch between the two settings with your foot. You have to flip a a switch. Otherwise I have no other issues. Now for the sound. Overall I absolutely love it! I play with a lighter touch and this pedal is very responsive whether clean or overdrive. My whole way of playing truly sounds so much better and cleaner. Clean setting: basically its a boost with a tone control but it does something to the amp to make it sound stronger for lack of a better word. Love what it does. Overdrive is just killer! It's so clean yet distorted, Dumble like (I assume) and will be my always on pedal. Sorry for the long post but this is definitely worth trying.

Two notadumble kits arrived at my house Saturday and I took 10 minutes and built one. The other will get some custom graphics and I may tackle the channel footswitch mod.

Its a very nice sounding pedal with a lot of sounds in it. Totally worth the price! I can't say it sounds like a Dumble, having no experience with one.

What's cool about how much you're enjoying this, is that that's probably not the best match of amps to bring out the best in a D style pedal. Super bonus that it sounds so good with the Mesa! WIN!

Interesting!

What would be a best-match scenario?

I ask because when I wanted a Dumble sound back in 2003, I got myself a Two-Rock, which was very much an amp doing Dumbly kinds of things. I'd have no idea how to get that sound out of an amp/pedal combination.

Fender black panel, maybe?

Dumbles are known for being a bit more expressive, while that Mesa is known for being "tight." That the pedal sounds not just good, but D-like with a stiff amp, is a bonus. I'm not suggesting a loose, saggy or SE Class A amp, as the D circuits have more control than that, but somewhere in the middle on the amp, would be a great match for many D style pedals. IMO.

After a local Blues Society contest I was tearing down quickly to get out of the way of the next band. One of the judges, who was a local guitar player, came up right after I had put the cover on my Express Plus 5:50 and asked if I had been using a Dumble. I was running a Rockett Blue Note into it. I think this was before I got the Lemon Aid, but I took the question as a huge compliment. That rig did sound darn good.

Oh, we did win the contest. But there were only two bands. My band which wasn't really a Blues band, more of an R&B thing, and the other band was even less a Blues band than we were. Because of schedule conflicts with real life, we were unable to go to Nashville for the next round.

This showed up in my feed. It's rather fascinating.
I don't own any JHS pedals (I do have his More Loud is Better t-shirt) but he seems to be a pretty cool guy. He's quick to compliment other pedals and his videos are funny and informative. I have a friend who has an Angry Charlie and that pedal sounds great.

I don't, either. I'm torn if that's an honest mistake, clever marketing, or both. I think he's being genuine, but I imagine there'll be a click frenzy later.

He's a really down to earth guy. I don't own any of his pedals and don't have any skin in the game, but not eve sure what you mean by "clever marketing." I totally believe it was an honest mistake and it's not like he marketed it as something and it's something else completely. It's a different version of a D than he thought it was.
