Not Sure About This, But...

Yes and no. As someone with a young child, I’ll admit, it would be nice to go to a craft store or etc. to get supplies to facilitate some at home activities. Of course that all depends on the severity of disease spread in a specific community, there’s a limit to when it’s not good to be open.

Guitar Center, on the other hand, should definitely not be open, or at least not letting people try or play gear. That’s a straight up encouragement for disease spread - get everyone putting their paws on the same instruments, no thanks

I understand why some might be concerned if there were no safety protocols in place...yet GC has said that they are stepping up and cleaning instruments more diligently than before to insure the public's safety...

And I agree that non-essential stores have a right to remain open if safety protocols are implemented...I'm just not sure that cleaning more often will do anything to help stop the spread of Covid-19, more than what stores are already doing...and stores which provide some form of creativity or entertainment for children are vitally important to prevent parents from being driven nuts while kids are at home during the pandemic.

Regards GC, they already have enough financial issues without Covid-19, and now that closing some of their stores has impacted their income, I can see why GC has been encouraging folks to visit their open stores, despite the pandemic.

They can’t even keep all those guitars remotely in tune, I doubt they could keep ‘em clean.

And that’s not a dig against them... I can’t keep mine clean, and I only have like, two people touching them.

Edit: Oh, and further more... just stay inside! I’m going f@cking loopy too, and I’ve been locked away (for the most part) for four weeks. The more people go out, the longer we all gotta stay inside.

Borderline political, but it’s important so I’ll take my lumps.

If the only form of entertainment you have for your kids is going to a store, you’ve already messed up. This disease spreads by putting people together. No store should become a proxy for good parenting.

Was planning on watching some Looney Tunes / Merry Melodies like we did when we were kids on Saturday mornings...but life got in the way and I'm relegated to budgeting for the end of the month's expenses soon...

TBH, it was a beautiful day out yesterday...our local game refuge was packed with cars...people exercising social distancing but trying to stay active when they can't do their everyday exercise routines at the gym.

Regards keeping guitars clean...I usually prefer to not let others play my guitars because 1) their hand sweat and oils affect string life adversely, 2) most folks don't wash their hands prior to playing guitars, 3) where were your hands before you picked up that guitar? You can see why if a guest visits and would like to jam, I ask that he bring his own instrument so that less risk is involved.

With the pandemic, we've limited guest visits to immediate family who are healthy, and are almost obsessively cleaning touch surfaces in our house. Gotta say that the kitchen looks spotless...the range top and oven cleaned last night, dishes and sink clean as a whistle...Now, if I could encourage my family to not mess things up too quickly, I'll be happy...

Good point. If the CDC (and local officials) are asking us to congregate in groups of no more than 5, how the heck do they expect us to quarantine if some of us have large families?

And yes, I think it's important to be able to keep the kids entertained and busy with some form of activity while parents either work from home or perform their household responsibilities. Les' suggestion about noise-cancelling headphones was spot on a couple weeks back...wondering how many parents got on that bandwagon and opted for solitude amidst the din of kids in the household....

I rebuilt the starter on my old Ford tractor, cut 2 acres of grass and will spend the evening re-arranging the tools around the 556 and 9mm reloading table. Being outside in 80 degree sunshine fixed the cabin fever issues. I feel pretty good right now.

I'm happy for you. It feels good when you can accomplish tasks, and helps prevent you from feeling worthless or useless. This often occurs when you get sick, or become unemployed, or are limited by age or health issues.

My feeling is that we all need to feel valued in some way, whether it's what contribution we can make to our immediate family, friends, or community, or our own well-being. Sometimes, all it takes is making the effort to do something worthwhile, and completing the task, that provides the sense of accomplishment.

I made a meatloaf and potato/cauliflower/roasted garlic mash a couple days ago, and just provided some for my neighbor, Bill, who is homebound mostly. He was grateful, but asked if I knew where to find some TP. Good question.

I agree, just doing something helps a lot.

Good on you for helping your neighbor. I don't have a shortage of TP. Bought a years supply a long time ago.

My suggestion to help your neighbor is to do what moms did for their babies for hundreds of years before we started throwing everything away. Use cloth. They washed and reused their cloth diapers over and over. If one has an abundance of washcloths, designate a few for wiping and just wash them daily, by themselves I would suggest, with Clorox. You can even dampen them to make them soft and comfortable. After the crisis is over just throw the used ones away and treat yourself to new washcloths.

NORM!

I think my old grey regular t-shirts have just found a new purpose. A good reason for new t-shirts anyway...

IIRC, in ancient times they used to put a cloth wrapped around a stick and soaked it in a water/vinegar solution in a bucket, next to the privy. Wasn't the most favorable of conditions, but when ya gotta go, ya gotta go...thankful for the paper industry these days...

Thing is, what we would normally consider a “clean” guitar, is not safe from spreading a virus. They aren’t wiping them down with Clorox after each person plays them. Sorry, but JUST SAY NO to GC for a while...
