Where is that speedo pic
I'm a scale tech for a living. The company i work for is in the material handling business but the bulk of my work is truck scales.
Trucks scales today are all electronic except for Emery Winslow hydraulic systems. They are both analog and digital but back in the day all scales were 100% mechanical.
I actually have a couple of mechanical truck scales that I service and if you've ever seen the underside of one it would amaze you. How the levers transfer weight is fascinating to me but is also becoming a thing of the past.
Chances the young guys in the industry have worked on one is pretty slim which is why I'm changing that for the new guys in my company.
We have a facility in Washington Iowa where I live. It is called Brava Roof Tile and they make roof tiles out of ABS plastic. My Brother runs the maintenance program there but the facility was built by McCleery Cumming and was responsible for 90% of the calendars in the US including Playboy. I'm still gathering information on this project so I don't have specifics. I personally know people that worked there in the 70s but am unclear when it was built.
Brava is putting machines in an area that had an old Toledo mechanical scale with the Toledo mechanical dial pedestal. The scale was given to me so I'm setting it up in my shop to make sure it's all there and still functional.
It is a 6'×8' platform rated at 6k capacity but the pedestal was full of water and had been laying on its back outside for a while so it may be junk. Parts are no longer available for it.
I'm going to do an "S" cell conversion on the final levers so it can be converted to an electronic system.
Since I'm a "horder" of cool things I have a stock pile of old discontinued indicators that still work and a stock pile of old flip digit remote displays.
I've been training a new guy since December so we spent a day in my shop using a couple SAI flip digit remote displays to make one that functions. Not a lot of them out there but he needs to know how to replace digits and set it up so when he runs across one in the field he'll know a little bit about it.
I tracked down the company that installed this scale and have reached out to them to get more information on it.
I plan to pour concrete and set this scale up outside and do a big social media event with me, Brava team and anybody I can get to participate from McCleery.
I think its a cool project and will enjoy every minute of it. Just thought I'd share this with the forum brothers and sisters!
Thanks
