DOM: 01/20/11; modcat: DGM2FTHGIIT-CS-NO-OO; Options: 10 Top and Birds. Color Code: Cherry Sunburst. Chuck Levin's 'Deep Vault'. A new 6 1/2 year old guitar.
It's been in hibernation for quite a while so it needs cleaning/polishing, pickup cover polishing, fretboard treatment and a new set of 11's. Confirmed Treble Bleed Circuit resistors installed. Planned upgrades: New control knobs(cancelled), Dunlop strap locks(done), tubing in the trem springs(done) and rosewood back covers(because the black plastic ones drive me insane).

Very pretty...congrats! I'll bet it's happy to finally have a good home.

*I'll bet those speed knobs are easier to grab for the push-pull than lampshades....

Gorgeous! Great choice.

Thanks. Why such a great guitar was passed over, left unplayed and unloved for all these years in Chuck's Guitar Orphanage is anyone's guess. Well, there's other NOS orphans around the country, and if they are over a certain model age(5+), there are great bargains out there, just like this one. And by the way, an '11' set is perfect for this guitar too.

So what's the deal with these "deep vault" guitars???

Well not really 'deep vault' that's just another way of me trying to say that there are old guitars (5+ years)/New Old Stock 'orphans' as I call them now, that have been hanging in guitar stores or in their cases in a basement somewhere, that have been passed on, because they now aren't the latest popular models(594 for instance), the MAP's were out of reach at the time(the economy was still very bad 5 years ago), they weren't 10 tops, older(now) generation pickups, etc...and they were just not considered for purchase.

So where is everyone finding these

For example I've seen at one dealer a NOS 2009 Custom 24 and a NOS 2011 SC-58. Will they 'make a deal' to finally clear the 'orphaned' inventory? Your guess is as good as mine. But if you are 'on the hunt' for a specific model, you could start at the Authorized PRS Dealer list. That's about all I can say on the subject. Good Hunting~!

Well, the good news is that you lucked out and found an awesome one!

I love a nice Cherry Burst as well, and DGTs are so cool. Two thumbs up.

A DGT a day keeps the taxman away. (Not to be interpreted as tax or legal advice, 'cause that would be stupid)
I find it interesting that the tax code is so convoluted and indecipherable that it's almost impossible to give advice on paying or not paying taxes without opening yourself up to litigation or jail time... but what do I know?

What a great DGT, and that burst is sick. Dope it out as you see fit, but I really dig those speed knobs. Classic.
