A couple of weeks back I posted about my ex wife finding the guitar I learned my first real chords on [and how to tune the d*mned thing]. Well, I got over my laziness and decided to do some work.

"She is cleaned up. Frets polished. New strings. Action and intonation adjusted. And, SHE PLAYS! Though I do need to clean the pots and blade switch. But yeah, the guitar I learned to play on has been resurrected!"🎸

post was from FB

I didn't go "Too" crazy with it, scrubbing and whatnot. But she is in much better shape than when she was found.

I will tell you what. For a "value brand" after all these years, I gotta say....the neck is incredible. NO fret sprout. Perfectly straight. Frets are level. And in all reality, it doesn't sound terrible. I didn't really know what I had way back then. But now, looking at this thing, it was a really good buy for the money. Back in those days, a "cheap" guitar was generally CRAP. This one is ok. And it has sentimental value to-boot!!!!!!

Good On You Man! I Wish I Still Had My First Guitar.
Me too, even though it was one of those plywood Danelectro's. I taught myself how to play guitar on that thing! And I foolishly got rid of it when I got a "real" guitar, but the memories of playing Black Sabbath (sorry Les), Deep Purple, Yes, Kansas, Rush, Rainbow, Johnny Winter, Frank Marino, etc. etc., and right near the end, VAN HALEN on that thing are ones I'll never forget.

I had, over the years, wondered where that guitar went. I was shocked when she told me to come and pick up some of my stuff, as she was moving, and it was there. I had to at least see what it could do with some new strings. It was late last night when I worked on it. I may see what kind of tones can be coaxed out of it this evening when I get off work.

I just want to know what you are doing up at 7am posting on a guitar forum.
It was more like 1:30 or 2:00. (Eastern time zone. I am in Pennsylvania). That is my normal time of night to begin to wind down. Most of us in the tattoo industry are not 9-to-5ers. We get the same amount of sleep as just about everyone else....it is just moved to a different time frame of the day.

Edit. . .
Wait, you meant THIS forum. I didn't post it here until the next day. (Around 10:00 am or so). I posted it on social media right after it was done. So it was after I got to work that I got the chance to put it here.

Get away with me with that "Timezone" stuff, we all know timezones were invented by Gibson in the 50's to deceive working musicians into paying more for their guitars!

Love the resurrection story, danktat! That guitar looks amazing after the cleanup. It's great that you got to relive some memories and even discover that it's still a great player. Sentimental value is priceless, and it's awesome that you got to reconnect with your first guitar. Keep on playing and enjoying it!

Yeah man. It was fun to see how she cleaned up. It has only been the past couple of years that I really decided to learn how to set up a guitar instead of having to take it to someone else. Still not as fast as some, but they setups are well done in the end. Finding this one, AND being able to set it up myself was a nice.
