Well, I did it. I bought a guitar that's not a PRS for the first time in quite a long while. After the headaches that the SE Silver Sky Maple gave me, I went for a 70th Anniversary Fender Player Strat. First impressions are that it blows the SE Silver Sky away in terms of fret work and overall QC. The tone is definitely a little different. The SE Silver Sky has a fatter tone where this particular Strat is brighter and the pickups definitely aren't as hot. I like the flatter 9.5" fretboard radius, but I'm still not sure about the neck as it is definitely narrower from E to E than my PRS necks (the F guitar has their modern C shape). As a really nice unexpected bonus, the fretboard edges are rolled. Weight is good at the lower side of 7 lbs. I did have to take some relief out of the neck when I got it, but now that it's been sitting over night, it definitely has taken the adjustment well and the neck is nice and straight and the action is decent for factory setup. I will be changing the strings from 9-42 to 10-46 as the 9's are just a little too light for my liking. I'll make my final setup adjustments (probably have to add a little neck relief back in, adjust the trem springs, and make my final action adjustments). My biggest gripes are the bent steel saddles and the threaded wiggle stick. The former is easy enough to change, but the latter, not so much. Overall I'll score this one a 4 out of 5.
