What I spent over 20 years teaching , My team won the Silver in Japan in this event, It is a 5 against 1 choreographed fight.
Each of the attackers represents form family ( Untai, hentai , sentai, nentai ,tentai) , they must execute 3 strikes in that family , the Protaganist must defeat them using a technique from that family, all 6 have to cover all corners of the 9m x 9m court ... and it has to happen in under 30 seconds .... LOTS of training..

Man, that is impressive! Our system has a 4 on 1 self defense requirement at 4th dan but not to that degree of choreography and athleticism.
I've been practicing (teaching karate for the last 30 years) martial arts most of my life, since my early teens. Started with kung-fu in the 70's (Shoalin and Wing chun), then branched into kick boxing and more combative arts. Tried Taekwon-do for a while but didn't really care for the structure of it, seemed to revolve more around money spent than actual training and skill development. The mid 80's took me into the style I teach now (Shorinjiryu, along with aikido, judo and jiu-jitsu) and that has taken me to several locations around the globe for international competitions as both competitor and coach. My wife and I opened our own local dojo in 1994 and have been teaching here ever since. So I guess it's more of a vocation than a hobby, but I don't make any money at it (not unlike music that way haha) so it does cost me plenty if you add everything up. Everything we do is strictly volunteer and we are a registered non-profit society as per our style rules and bylaws. She is a 6th dan and I am a 5th, so yeah, she outranks me both in the house and the dojo!
My other activity is riding and racing motorcycles, which most of you that watch my posts already know. So if you think guitars cost money...🤣
Beyond that, I cook, bake, and do lots of my own house renos and building projects. Mostly out of necessity and where we live; small jobs are hard to find contractors to do things in these parts. They only want to do the major building jobs it seems. So you learn to do stuff.
I still hunt and fish, and process my own game, something that carried over from 30 years as a meat cutter.
