Hi all,
Just as a curiosity- PRS Custom 24 2012, connected to Boss ME 25 multieffects unit.... When done with the 6 batteries to feed the multieffects unit, no noise at all. When done with the PSA BOSS AC adaptor ( The one recomended by Boss ), noise in the moment you introduce gain - drive...
Any PRS members who can help me with that?
Sorry if something like this has already been posted...
Many thanks in advance
Cesar

Thanks Justmund
I am plugged directly to a socket in my house.
My amp ( Marshall MG30 CFX ) is having the same issue actually.... Maybe a ground loop issue in the house installation?

Very hard to pinpoint, I get issues in my house when the washing machine is going, and my music room is generally noisy. Personally I would run around the house and turn everything off and see if that helps (and I mean everything!), but I'm a little pedantic like that!

You can get devices which remove ground loops but not sure which one would be applicable in your case.

Sounds like a ground loop issue. Usually this is not the fault of the house wiring, by the way, but there are good ways to solve it.

Another possible source of noise is the wall wart itself causing stray EMI/RFI, and to make matters worse, this can increase the noise in a ground loop.

Solving ground loop problems is a trial and error process, removing one plug from the power chain at a time (remember to use the amp's standby switch to avoid loud potentially deafness-inducing pops when you do that).

I dont think its a ground issue at all. Ground loops dont care if you use drive or not. If its an electrical ground issue at your wall socket it should make noise all the time. Thats just been my experience

Well, the funny thing is that the Boss ME25 does not have any noise when powered with batteries....
Will keep on trying....

That is because when you use batteries, you're not using the thing that is causing the ground loop. IF it's a ground loop.

It's very common to have a ground loop that doesn't make much audible noise until the gain increases the noise, making it noticeable. Gain is simply an increase in signal level.

Thanks LSchefman. It is clear that the noise is produced when I plug the unit to the socket. Understanding that the adapter is the official PSA from Boss and should not produce such a noise I have to understand that the root cause is coming from the plug itself. I will take it to a friend's house and try.

Solved... Ground connection missed in the socket... Now works much better! Thanks to all!
