Yeah, they didn't even make a 22 fret guitar until the early '90s, right? Maybe it was a typo.
From what I understand, it wasn't all that much cheaper for them to make CEs vs. their Custom counterparts. Think about what's really different... glue vs bolt-in neck joint? Maple neck vs mahogany? They both require about the same amount of labor, which is what you're really paying for. Maybe it's a little easier to finish a maple neck instead of a mahogany one because you can skip the grain filler. Yet the market had the impression that they were "lower line" guitars and was unwilling to pay anywhere near as much for them. PRS is a business and if they're working just as hard to make little to no profit, there's no point in making that product.
