It's not good is it? No soapbar models in the current Core, S2 or SE range.

I had a singlecut satin soapbar in 2007 and it's one I really wish I still had. It was such a workmanlike, simple, great feeling and sounding guitar, good price too.

I wish they would bring these back for a run, I would grab one in a flash.

Paul likes his own pickups , so the NF's are as close as it will come these days sadly. Joe Knaggs still offers them and as he ran Private Stock for 20 years I can attest he makes very nice instruments . I love my T3 Kenai with Lollar soapies.

They exist, but seem to be pretty tough to find if you are looking for something very specific. I stumbled on this beauty a few years ago and have been enjoying it ever since. A gold top single cut would make a nice addition to it...

I was surprised at how few I saw when I was in the hunt, but it comes down to overall demand. There does not seem to be enough demand to get PRS interested in making another run. Honestly, I have this single P-90 guitar and it would be very tough to make the case for a second... even though I have 9 other guitars with hum buckers.

I feel like PRS has moved more toward the Narrowfield pickup design as a replacement for P90s to get that "in between single coil and humbucker tone." I would be surprised to see them back in the lineup again, but what do I know? That's just a guess.

They'll come back, once they've been gone for long enough for demand to pick up. That's the pattern, anyway.

I'd love a glimpse as to how PRS as a company determines when to bring a model back. I'm sure they keep close watch on the pulse of what's selling at their dealers, but there's got to be a bit more to it. The NFs coming back has been interesting. I have to imagine that their failure the first time around was quite the disappointment.

As the Soapies were a custom shortend Duncan Antiquity and Pauls preference for internal made pickups I can't see them coming back.

I have an 01 McSoapy,04 IRW neck McSoapy and a Triple wood library with a flame mahogany /rosewood neck they will never leave my collection .

It has to do with what is selling and what isn’t.

OG Soapies were ceramic SD’s, 594’s were Antiquities.

Just go used hunting

Paul will express a preference for whatever it is he’s selling. PRS sells far more guitars with pickups made by outside vendors than they sell with PRS-made pickups.

With the S2s transitioning to PRS pickups, that’s 6,000-10,000 pickups they need to be able to produce each year. With Core and Bolt-On sales appearing to slow the last year or so (based on serial numbers), it’s likely that PRS has the pickup production capacity to absorb the S2 demand. That might also explain why the soapbars aren’t there, why PRS was selling current pickups last year, and the addition of the NFs.

Have a favorite among those three?
