No case candy

I got a supposedly open box core model PRS. It came to me with nothing but a trem bar. I like the guitar but no hang tag is just eating at me. The dealer cannot find it and PRS is done with it. It just feels incomplete to me. It's a shame it's lost. I like the guitar a lot but can't get past no having the case candy , mainly not having the hang tag.

I bought my first PRS new from a reputable dealer and it didn't have the hang tag. I didn't even know it was a thing until four years later when I bought my second one.

Open box may have meant someone else bought it, tossed the case candy and sent the guitar back.

It's a nice memento to have, but serves little to no purpose once it leaves the factory.

Its only purpose is to disappoint people that don't have it. They make such a big deal about not replacing them ,that it actually makes me want it more. I'd pay for the thing and they won't sell it. I'd take the guitar there and still no go. That's what makes it important to me.

I'm just trying to be a voice of reason. If you like the guitar, the lack of hang tag is no reason to return it. It doesn't have any impact on resale or authenticity.

They probably don't replace them because there's no need to. It's not a COA or anything.

Oh well , I'll just return it and stop crying over candy
Well, your choice. I don't care about case candy. Most of my core models don't have them, or maybe they do...I don't really check when buying used. The two core models I bought new have them...at least I assume so, again, didn't really check, or if I did, I forget.

But there are folks who will pay a premium to buy a used guitar with case candy. And you either are one, or want to appeal to those folks if/when you sell.

If it meant anything, like records of oil changes help for cars, I would understand, but all it tells you is that it is the guitar you see (serial #, model, neck profile, pups, strings, date) - it doesn't even state the finish color...

So...what Core PRS are you returning, and where? Might be a bargain available after the second return...

;)

I get the disappointment in the case candy and hang tag.

But it isn't a buying decision for me.

If it is that important for some, I'd think it would be part of the conversation before they agree to buy and pay.

It was a quick buy that I really didn't think about before buying. It was a Tremonti Signature , I was told everything was there before ordering it.
I've returned it and ordered a used mint 2013 SC245 10top Autumn Sky that has all the case candy. That's what I wanted in the 1st place .

I have a guitar that I have had for over 40 years with the original hang tags and owners manual it has not added $1 more value to the instrument or made it sound or play any better than it ever.

Seems like a very silly reason to return a guitar. If you dig the guitar, then keep it and play it. None of mine have ever had case candy.

Probably shoulda bought the SC245in the 1st place...

Just sayin'...o_O

I personally don't care, especially when buying used or open box..

Believe it or not, though, that I had a seasoned GC rep tell me that having the tag/candy for trade-ins of PRS can mean up to $50 more in value. PRS fans looking to buy used value it that much.
