Anyone with a 2019 and newer PRS ever have any issues keeping their guitars on stands? namely using a cork lined stand?

IF I keep them in a case, I don't play them as often, so I'm finding myself in a bit of a dilemma.

Hercules wall hangers and stands are my go to. Others use string swing wall hangers. Both solid products. Quick Google says no go with cork and nitro. Can always put cloth like a Tshirt or something as a buffer.

You and I must have vastly different google algorithms at work.... first hits I got were along the lines of "never had a problem" and "cork might work well" ..

Seems a natural material would be less likely to react than a chemical .. that said, I do own some Hercules but the main ones I use are the Konig & Meyer made in Germany..

From the specs on Thoman for K&M
  • Not suitable for long-term use with guitars with nitrocellulose lacquer!

yep saw that on their tag attached to the stand... what is "long term use" tho... feels written by a lawyer.. I mean I don't plan to permanently-store them on the stands, but can I store them on there two days? Seems like there should be something more concrete out there.

The fact that it's a disclaimer is enough for me that there'sbeen an issue. Is it safe to put a plastic bag on your head but for how long? o_O

meanwhile I found this.... I'm starting to think it's a Lawyer disclaimer..

Dont you know alll the layers are here not TGP? Asking the wrong crowd! :p

Seriously man it's your guitar go for it if you want. There's worse things than a little nitro burn.. like bath salts.

yeah, I mean who else can afford $20K guitars ;)

But seriously, If I don't have my guitars out, they don't get played... I case them when I travel (which for me is about ½ the month) and keep them on a stand the other half. I'll report back if I ruin my finish anytime soon...

I may not be on board with cork, but I'm with you on keeping them out. I'm the same way. If they're out I play them more. Sure there's logical arguments to case them, but out is the way for me. The benefits out way the cons. I keep my tools I use the most on a peg board in the garage too.

I'll put a cork in it and wish you good luck! Let us know how it works out.

Considering the beauties you have, I would take no chances and ensure that whatever stand I put them on was advertised as nitro safe!

I'm using high quality cloth over the cork as insurance ... I think they'll be fine. But I'm still looking for a single post/thread/ Amazon review on the internet where a cork stand did damage to a nitro guitar... still nothing.

Keep in mind that the cork K&M uses may be "treated" in some way, especially to get it to conform and stick to those curved tubes of the stand. That treatment could be a cause of nitro issues rather than the cork itself! Just a thought!! The cloth is good insurance!!! I have one of those cork K&M stands, but I don't use it often and when i do use it, the guitar will be on it a few hours at best ;~))

thanks for the feed back... Yes, cloth wrap will be a thing for me, ugly as it might be.

Yep, any problems would likely be from solvents and glues that were used to process the cork and stick it to the stand. If K&M used the proper chemicals then their cork might be OK.

which begs the question ... why wouldn't they? I can't imagine German engineers being stupid like that. I'm 99% sure the statement about not storing the guitars long term on their stands is a CYA statement more than anything else...

Unfortunately I work with German engineers week in and week out.
And they can be just as stupid as anyone else at times.
Cloth. Fugly yes. Reassuring, definitely.

I totally hear you on that! I thought, when I got my first corporate gig at Miller Beer "wow, they have some dull lightbulbs here, but other corporations aren't like this". I was wrong and proven as such on numerous occasions in the years since!! Besides, the engineers might tell you what is best, the accountants and lawyers tell you what is going to get done (some kind of bottom line new math mixed with 3 parts CYA)!!!
