I just purchased an 06 20th anniversary custom 24 and I am stoked!
Im sure this has been asked before but here i go.
Is the finish nitro or poly?

Thanks for the reply.
I did some poking around on the support area and found the nitro finish didn't start until 2019. That surprised me since Gibson has been using it got many years.
At least I know how to care for the finish.

I think what you found was the latest version of Nitro was in 2019 (I would have guessed 2018). There have been a number of Nitro versions on PRS guitars. One was their blend called V12 if I remember correctly. But I agree, yours is most likely Poly.

The sales guy at GC when I bought it said is was most likely a custom build based on the number of upgrades. Does anyone know if nitro was an option in 05 or 06?

Just check the MODCAT in the bridge pup cavity. It will have all the build details. Use the decoder here in the forum.

It's not nitro unless it's a satin finish. They started offering guitars with satin nitro somewhere around 2005.

Gloss was nearly always a urethane, with a few exceptions, until they made the switch over to the CAB finish starting near the end of last year. Exceptions include the first couple years of the DGT and some Private Stock instruments (and probably others I'm forgetting about).

I wouldn't call it a custom build, but there were more options to choose from when ordering a PRS back then. A custom build would be a Private Stock.

This is why I like this forum. Good, timely information. Someone almost always has the correct answer.

G, do you think the OP might have been referring to a factory-ordered piece with package upgrades? (10-top, Artist pack, etc)? It was noted that the guitar was a 20th Anniversary. Were there options possible for this run of production guitars?

Probably. You had three choices of inlays when ordering in 2005 (moons, birds, anniversary birds). Nickel or gold hardware. Normal top or 10 top. Artist Package. I think they only did the satin finish on Singlecuts and Standards, though.

Thanks for verifying this. It's been a few years since my old music shop education days. Thanks for the "refresher course."
