Been surfin' youtube and found this.
know a lot of people hate Nickelback. IDK anything about them.
regardless, this "kicks ass". can't imagine it being played any better.
"lead boy" is playin' a prs, sounds fabulous. don't know why prs wouldn't get him as an endorser.
would be the highest profile guy/band they have.

These guys get some serious hate.
I remember listen to their first album not thinking much of it then Silver Side Up came out and it was fantastic. Still think How You Remind Me is an all time Rock classic.
After that album though they just went into this cut and paste verse chorus verse chorus thing that after just one listen you could remember the entire song and be instantly bored after.
I always listen to their new stuff and think it's great, so well written, lovely melody lines then never ever listen again.
They did a cover of Sad But True and yeah.....that was an EXCELLENT cover.

Personally I think it has a lot to do with this cocktail of being around right when the internet was exploding. Getting air play on radio like no tomorrow and being seen as having a formula they exploited.

They opened for 7dust a number of years ago. It was a good show but any more it's just kind of blah for me. The song they did on the Hero sound track was pretty cool.

IIRC, they -were- PRS endorsees...

Then, Chad got a deal with Gib$on, and started playing their guitars...

can't imagine it being played any better.

ZZ top.

This "Nickelack hate" conversation came up before and there's always some hate for very successful acts that get over saturated in the media. They are very good at their formula and they write catchy alt/rock (*pop for today) with great lyrics and decent vocals but musically they are a bit on the generic side and don't have a lot of depth on the instruments. Success can be a double edged sword, Journey suffered from that in a huge way, while they were very deep on their instruments, wrote, played and sang to a really high level, they were so pop that the rest of the entire world loved them while the SF bay area (their home) didn't have much love for them and was paying more attention to the modern rock acts that were more cutting edge. The fickle ways of the public changes all the time.

That said, this is an OK cover, just not "standout" to me. To me, if you're gonna do a cover you have to take it a step further, in a different direction, or make it your own, like Santana did with "She's not there" from the Zombies. This cover didn't have that and IMHO Billy Gibbons original version is much better.

I think they are a decent band. They just don't have much range. Their 'formula' came along at the right time, but once you've enjoyed a few songs it was time to move on to something new.

There have been plenty of bands who never made it past a couple good songs on their first album.

Ive always thought they were a kick ass band. Always play the song rockstar before I make my way down to the bar/club, totally a guilty pleasure... not so sure about the new album though...

My kids had one of their first albums, then one day, Nickelback were not to liked at all???? Go figure. The public is fickle pickle. Some things become fads to hate......

I don't listen to the hate. I like em.
Likewise. I've seen them like 6 times live. Pretty good shows with good vibes.

They also did a pretty good cover of Elton John's "Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting."

I'm only chattin' about this song. I only posted 'cause he's playin' a PRS. That's all.
Evaluate it on it's own merits ... or not, doesn't make any difference to me.
You always get guys like HuggyB who r always negative and dismissive about music that doesn't line up with their pre-conceived notions, which is fine ... at the end of the day, just opinions and mean nothing. I don't understand why so many people can't just enjoy and appreciate. It's a fabulous song and this is a fabulous version of it. Sometimes a cigar is just cigar.
not going to go there.

If I remember correctly Dime (R.I.P.) shredded on one of their songs, "That's all I have to say about that"
Next Question....
