A few days ago I went to GC, my most favorite guitar store on earth (/sarcasm), to try out some 7 string guitars. Of the couple I tried, I really didn't like how wide the neck is on 7 strings though... So it seems I wasted time and energy even asking about them. Unfortunately I still had that urge for lower tuning... I don't know how I missed it waking in, but as I was leaving semi disappointed, I glanced and saw this beast. I had been eyeballing one for a few months now, in vintage cherry, so it worked out perfectly!

Now instead of wasting time on a forum, I'm gonna make my fingers bleed, lol.

Sweet! I have that same color MM. It is great for lower tuning stuff, both heavy / metal stuff and other genres - I use it in the Celtic Fusion band I play in, tuned to A standard. In fact, the other guitarist used it a couple of times at a gig a couple weekends ago, he seemed to really dig it as well.

And now that these things are discontinued, I feel like I have something a little different.

We love ours, ever since the Railhammer Chisel pickup upgrade and the custom set of Reverend/S.I.T. Glad we got ours before they were discontinued.

I was trying to remember what pickups those were while I was there today... Now I won't forget, lol.

Just playing a little bit now, I noticed the low B string sounds muted... Is that the nature of the beast, or should I replace the nut? I was looking at the nut, and it seems to be slotted better than my SE Cu24 was, but there's a couple spots that could stand to be cleaned up, I might just replace it with a Tusq though... Maybe take it in to one of the shops here and get them to do a bone nut, we'll see.

Depending on how I feel after I set it up, i might install a Sustaniac system in it :).

I was surprised too, they actually gave me the gig bag this time, lol.

Thanks, I'm stoked to have found one since they discontinued the model. It does show some pick wear, so they knocked some of the final cost off, but they're nothing a good cleaning and polish won't buff out.

I wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't red, I don't like the silver burst or sunburst finishes at all, lol

So hopefully someone can answer this. No shops around me that I've checked out so far have 'baritone' strings. I have found 12-54 though, would that be too light? I think my low B string is dead, everything I've checked on the guitar shows it should be the string, so I'd like to get them replaced.

Wish they made Cobalts In 13-72, lol

Found on Sweetwater:

D'Addario EXL 157 & 158, Ernie Ball 2839, Fender Super 250B. All packaged sets. But we use the Reverend/S.I.T Set with a Plain 'G', see my picture in this thread for those gauges.

The saddles and nut will take all of these with no issue with setting intonation and action which is, in my opinion, very important for playability and recording.

I bought the same D'Addarios that came stock, EXL157, 13-62, from Amazon. I haven't had to change them yet (bought it last April?), the ones that came on my MM were in great shape. But if the guitar you bought has been played a bit, it is very possible the strings are a little "dead".

Amazon is the source of most of my guitar knick-knacks like strings, clip-on tuners, cables.
