Heya fellas,

New here. Been a long time Gibson fan, had many lps, sgs, an explorer or 2, and quite a few strata and others. While enjoying both my Strat deluxe and LP classic, I wanted something a bit more modern, and a bit lighter. From there I took my strat plus and traded it for an S2 after looking at PRSi for a long time

After getting this one I loved the lighter weight and easier access, so naturally I swapped in some metal \m/ pickups and continued to enjoy it. I was really impressed with the build quality, how easy it played, how resonant it seemed to be, and pretty much the whole package.

As time passed I decided I had to have a core custom 24, I did a bit of searching, craigslisting etc. I was looking to trade my LP classic for one. Many deals fell through for many colors and types. I really wanted a black or blue with hollow birds. In a possible deal for a singlecut ( that was not really up my alley) I ended up with a Z06 standard 22. While the Z06 was super nice, I wasnt really digging not having the matching car, :p. However the solid mohogany, paired with the Dragon II pickups was quite nice. Shortly thereafter I found myself at guitar center where I traded the Z06 for a 2008 Custom 24 10 top.

It has a few dings, some buckle rash, and the faintest fret wear, but it feels like home. I absolutely love it and have found my new number one. With the HFS/VB combo I can hit many tones, and super nice leads. Both are truly great instruments and built fantastically well. I may eventually send the core to PTC for a fix on the top ding, a level, crown and setup.

Thanks!!

It's a bit darker in person. I'll try to get some outside pics over the holidays.

Nice pair...congrats! It's great to find an axe that "feels like home."

Play the snot out of them!

That is an awesome introduction! Great looking guitars, that S2 has a figuring that is very interesting! And the CU24 10-top, is well, a 10-top!

I'm strongly considering the gray-black for an SE277 semi-hollow procurement sometime in the new year...

Thanks fellas!!

The S2 is significantly lighter than the core, but plays very similar. The S2 does have its own sound. And will likely become my down tuned guitar.

I have never played a baritone, but will hunt one down in the future. Those Se 277s look super nice.

The s2 came with g&b pickups from Korea (pictured). I swapped in uncovered PRS \m/ pickups. I will post a pic soon. Wiring them up was a bit odd and mostly trial and error, I ended up using old mccarty diagrams for the bridge and literally trial and error for the neck. Kept getting an out of phase sound in the mid position of the three way, have that fixed now.

The CU24 has stock HFS/VB I like these a lot, seems like they have an edgier sound than the gibby pickups I've had in the past, but are more modern, although they do compress a bit more than id like at full tilt. I want to find a set of covered dragon IIs for the CU 24 one day.

The m pickups are a bit brighter and less bassy in the s2, maybe. Even a bit more resonant, however the cu 24 with hfs/VB has a fullness that the other doesn't. One day I'll likely swap the pickups out with each other and replace the tone pots/switches in the S2 with US equivalents. Both guitars have their own unique sound.
