I was lucky enough to get two new (to me) PRS in the span of a week and half for the second time in a row!

2006 Swamp Ash Special
The previous owner swapped out the original McCarty pickups for a set of uncovered 57/08s and they sound great.

2007 McCarty 10 Top
This one came to me in good condition and unmodified. I prefer locking tuners so I added a pair of drop in Gotoh locking tuners.

It was a good week :D

Play report:

The McCarty lives up to what I think the two of them were going for, it has all the power of a Les Paul when going through my plexi, but all the ergonomics and looks of a modern PRS. Don’t know why they didn’t still make these McCarty pickups.

I ran the Swamp Ash Special through my PRS MT15 and it screams! I do believe I’ve been converted to the PRS trem over my Floyds! Those 57/08s handle high gain quite well and sound good split, something you can’t say about most pickups.

I’m very happy will all 4 of my PRS :D

Congrats on two great guitars!

I love the 57/08’s for high gain and hard rock. I have a set in a singlecut, and they hit that fundamental note like a sledgehammer, but also sound wonderful clean and everything in between. Don’t really think high output pickups are a necessity these days, with how much gain pedals and amps are putting out, and it’s just no contest comparing clean tones of a set of 57/08 or 59/09 vs high output ceramics.
