NGD - Why'd it Take so Long to get my 1st PRS?

I own a LP Studio, a Fender American Elite Strat, a Fender MIM Strat and a couple of very nice Taylor acoustic guitars. All of these are outstanding guitars and I really enjoy playing them, but something was missing. What made me realize this was a chance encounter with a YouTube video demo of a PRS Piezo guitar that sounded absolutely amazing.

At this point, I started to research the PRS product line-up, of which I knew nothing about. Needless to say, the variety of PRS products and depth of the variations within each model line up was very confusing to me at first. This was compounded by the limited availability of PRS guitars at my local GC to try out (note, I don't live in a big metropolitan area, which limits what's available nearby). It took me forever to find two guitars to compare the Pattern Thin vs Pattern Regular neck profiles. And forget about any high end models at my GC, they just didn't carry them.

Thankfully, this forum helped answer all my questions, with the exception of which one to buy. Deep down, I kept coming back to that Piezo video demo and just loved the sounds it was capable of making. Slowly, but surely, I narrowed my choice to a Custom 24 10-Top Piezo solid body model with a Pattern Regular neck. This is not a model that is readily available, so I shopped for months before I finally found 'the one'. It plays and sounds fantastic and I'm a very happy PRS owner now. My only problem is that I've fallen in love with PRS guitars and may have to buy another. They are truly works of art.

Hopefully, these pics will show properly.

Spectacular!

Play it a lot, and you'll have a hard time going back to much else.

Yeah man. It's a blessing and a curse.

A buddy once told me never to watch game of thrones because I would get addicted and end up watching tens of hours of TV and lose my life. I said ok and I've never watched the show.

I wish there would have been someone to warn me about PRS guitars. But it's not like I'm addicted to PRS... I can stop when I want to. I just don't feel like it right now.

I'm (mostly) kidding. I love my PRSi.

All together now: "You can't have just one"

And except for the Taylors, all the other ones will now feel and sound like a random collection of assorted parts poorly fitted together: PRS=Lifetime Quality.

Killer guitar! Custom 24 piezo is the best PRS model (at least until I put mine down and pick up my 594, or my P22...........).
They are definitely addictive!

Oooh, love that model in the color - because I have one! Though as often happens with PRS hand-done finishes, my Black Gold Wrap P24 has more red in the edge burst, whereas yours goes almost all the way to black.

You will be very very happy with that guitar!

And as for your next...may I suggest something in a Single-cut configuration, in a green or teal color perhaps. Maybe something with a 24.5" or 24.594" scale length. And you could even get a piezo if you hunt down a P245 or P245SH NOS or used. Like the one I have in Trampas Green.

:D

Thanks for all the replies. And Yes, I really do love this guitar. I'm amazed every time I pick it up and strum a chord at the sustain, it's so sweet sounding and just lasts forever!!

It'll be quite awhile before I acquire any more guitars, but trust me, I will be looking at all the PRS beauties on this forum, especially the Private Stock Friday thread ones. They are awesome. But if I were to add another PRS to my collection, what would you suggest? I would want something that provides a different voicing than what I have, but still awesome sounding and looking.

Hmmm...I'd say a 509 to be different. The easy answer would be a single cut of some variation. SC594, 245, etc. Hollowbodies are fun too!

When you get working with a PS PRS acoustic, even Taylors feel like a slapped-together cardboard box in comparison (I've had 800 and 900 series Taylors).

My son was in town during a tour, and had his Taylor with him. When he played my PRS acoustic, he said, "Now how am I going back to that junky thing I play?"

Black Gold is a beautiful color, and is the same color as my PRS Custom 24 Artist Package, which is my first [but not the last] PRS. I call her "Ellie May," because when I first read "Black Gold," my next thought was "Texas tea." I don't have image hosting set up yet, but this is mine, from when it was listed on Wild West Guitars.

No Piezo on mine, so that will be a feature that I'll look for on my next PRS. I do have that on another guitar, and it's a solid feature to have.
