First off, it came two days early! (Forgive my awful pics, and I did not even wipe all my grubby fingerprints off first!) :mad:

In short. Markie was right. I LOVE both the maple CU 22 semi hollow LTD and this one, but this one (Walnut) does a bit more of what I like. Its a touch woodier sounding, and seems to be just a bit more unique. Actually, the word that PRS uses on their website "throaty" is a really good description. The big issue, the pattern neck, is no issue on this one. I may actually like it as much as my WFs, but time will tell. Unlike the Quatro, this one seems to be just about as large, with just a different shape. (More C shaped, less U shaped) The workmanship is unreal. Comparing it to my PS, I really cant tell any difference. :iamconfused: Tonally, it is EVERY bit as good as any of my PSs. The one complaint I have, and I still feel this will make it sound even better is the V12 finish. Its sticky, and just seems much thicker than the nitro on my PSs, and seems even thicker than my 10th anniversary, and is stickier than that for sure. Other than that, its pretty much as good as a guitar can be IMO. PRS lives up to its reputation. I will do some clips in the next day or two. Really busy, and I did not expect it to be here until Tuesday! (Oh yea, the inner carving seems to be exactly the same as the Maple capped LTD, so it seems the Abalone headstock sig, Brazzy fretboard, and Walnut top are the only differences, at least as far as I can tell having them side by side here) An absolute killer, world class guitar in looks, tones, workmanship and playability for well under 4K. How can you beat that? SMOKING guitar! :) Now I have to sell my tele to pay for it. :mad: For everything good, there is an evil!

Thanks for the kind words everyone! It really is beautiful in person, but that means zero without tone, and I PROMISE you, this thing is SOOOO fine tonally. It resonates like you can not believe. Between this and the maple capped version, I really think PRS is doing themselves and everyone a major disservice by not having them in their production line. As I have been saying, these guitars can hang with any guitar, in any style, ever made. :eek: They can somewhat hang with my Johnny Smith for pure electric jazz tones, can do country cleans and similar to tele and strat tones, can do blues like you can't believe, rock with ANYTHING, and even do all out metal! IMO, anyone can have only one guitar, (One of these) and get world class tones in almost any electric style I can think of. That is really, really amazing. You can pay through the nose for a PS, and its a blast and really fun, but get down to pure tone, and you are not going to get any better. I leaned a long time ago that some of the best sounding guitars, have the most plain woods. I love the quilt and flame as much as anyone, but it in no way makes a guitar sound better. I am no expert on tone woods, but maybe all that figure in the wood STOPS it from vibrating as much. Many of the finest sounding guitars I have ever played have been made with very plain woods. When someone is listening to you play, the figure in the wood is of zero concern.

You're preachin' to the choir, my friend. I've said for a long time that both the production and limited run PRSes are world-beaters, and that they compare to private stocks in terms of tone.

I'd really like to get myself a hollowbody PRS, or another semi-hollow.

I haven't found the V-12 finish sticky, by the way. Then again, I haven't found the nitro on my PS acoustic sticky at all, either. But the important thing is that both finishes result in a uniformly good sounding guitar. One nice thing about the V-12 is that you can take the guitar in and out of cold weather, etc., and it won't check (I'm that doofus who worries about that kind of thing).

Hey Les,

I know checking can look not so pretty, but dealing with jazz guitars for so long, I think it actually helps the tone as well. It really does seem to loosen the guitar up and make it more resonant. Having the same model with both nitro and Poly, its pretty easy to hear the difference. I know Paul Miles agrees with me as well, we talked about it. So it blows my mind that these things sound THIS good. Does the Cu 22 maple have V12, or was that an earlier poly finish? Between these two guitars, I do prefer the finish on the Maple capped one, so if thats V12, the new one may just need to be played and worn in. The Maple capped one I have here I played TONS. As usual with these things, the guitars are JUST different enough to make you want one of each. :mad: Great marketing by PRS. I know there are a lot of guys who really wish they could afford a PS (heck, I wish i could afford way more of them!) but as Paul himself says, the production models really do sound just as good. My 95 10th anniversary, My old Artist 3s, the CU 22 maple cap, ME Quatro, and now this one have shown me that over and over again. I think thats fantastic. Unlike Gibson where you HAVE to go CS to get a top of the line instrument (and sort through many of those) the top production PRS will rival anything you can get, anywhere, at any price to my ear, including PRSs own private stocks! The workmanship on this thing is flawless. The setup as good as any of my PSs. Its amazing PRS can do this on the scale that they do.

My opinion on hollowbody VS semi hollow. Go semi hollow. For some reason, and its just my style maybe, but the PRS semi hollows seem to out hollow the hollow bodies, and the hollow bodies seem very one dimensional to my ear. :iamconfused: It could also be that PRS just does semi hollow better than any other builder I am familiar with. I still remember the first time I plugged into my old Artist 3 semi hollow trem, and did not know it was semi hollow. I thought I had stumbled on the worlds most resonant guitar! Dont be afraid to grab an Artist 2-3-IV or limited! Or grab one of these or a maple capped one again. Of course it would be the ultimate to order a PS exactly how you want it, and an F holed PS will be my next PRS I am 99.9% sure of. Need to replace that sky blue one I sold.
 
First clip. I just let it roll. Its a bit different tone than I usually have, as I used the Super reverb with the Mad Professor Blue Sky overdrive in front. Very inspiring guitar. I did not make a mistake in 3 minutes of improvising, so you KNOW its inspiring! I will do a comparison clip as soon as I can.
