Congrats - that's a sweet looking Special and hope its better than you expected....

It’s so light in weight. Just finished throwing back some food I’m gonna go play the guitar for a couple hours or more I’ll check in tonight.

Mine was more on the heavy side of these at 7lb8oz which isn't all that heavy for guitars but most I saw were 7lb or less. I will be interested to hear if your assessment of the Special agrees with mine or not - after all we did discuss it at length before you purchased. Hoping that I didn't mislead you. I still think its a special guitar and aptly named.

Congrats! I think these should be called Sweet Semi Hollows after I tried one a few months back at my local dealer. :)

Killer! I LOVE that top!

Very cool color and top!

Exactly!
Killer classic look, and the figure in the top is mesmerizing!

Not a 10 top. I understand the definition of 10 top, but this top is what I call... freaking cool.

You don’t always have to buy a 10 top or higher to get something unique and awesome looking. The Paul Reed Smith company makes the most awesome guitars cosmetically, best playability, with incredible sustain and sound.

Mozzi, I can’t thank you enough for your in-depth description. You were spot on. My initial observations. The 58/15 MT pick up sound incredible when tapped and went in humbucker. Reminds me of one of my old Les Pauls that used to have coil splits. I know this is not a split it’s a tap but the sound reminds me of that. It is not a single coil Strat like sound. But a sweet sound especially when coupled with the narrow field. Hunbucker sounds are clear and classic and great when dirty. You could really play a lot of vintage Rush on this one. Clean tones are sweet, great for jazz, smooth jazz and fusion. I played to a plethora of different genres of backing tracks, both clean and dirty. The special handled it all with sweet tones and grinding screaming distorted sounds with lots of overtones.

This guitar is very different from my 513 But in a good way it has its own pallet of sounds. You can easily own both. I would say the 513 the “Swiss Army knife“ of guitars will give you more Strat like tones. The 513 also gives you clear humbucker tones and more modern humbucker tones. The Special brings you a pallet of sounds in between, if that makes sense not Strat like but a decent tapped single coil sounds. The narrow field as a nice unique airy tone when combined with the coil tap or the full humbuckers bass or treble.

Cosmetically this guitar has it all. Not a 10 top but extremely well figured with lots of green in the top. The stain is just gorgeous. Great birds, nice wood veneer headstock, I am extremely satisfied with this purchase.

If there’s one negative I will say it’s the cream pickup rings. This darker Guitar should have black pick up rings. Something when I had the time I will change.

I highly recommend this guitar to any PRS fan. I’m still astonished how the Paul Reed Smith company continues to make one model after another with so many different tones and different sounds. Keep it going!
