This is one of those NGD's that just kind of "happens" even if you are not really trying as I was not actually in the market. Yes, there were guitars I have been watching on Reverb and drooling over. There are a few at prices which just seem so "good" compared to the last few years. My collection is a bit bigger than I expected at the moment and thus I listed 2 of my guitars last week to get them in front of prospective buyers, but not with any sense of urgency. I listed them on Wednesday and early Saturday morning jumped on to see what competing guitars were listed in the last few days. When the thumbnail loaded on a very new listing, I knew I was in trouble. It had only been listed for 28 minutes and only had pictures, but no description as the Seller was listing a few things and just putting placeholders to get them started. I patiently hit the refresh to catch the description when it came up and as soon as it loaded, I fired off a couple quick questions. It was a quick exchange over the next hour which lead to a productive negotiation. The guitar was paid for after being listed less than two hours!
You may ask, what is so special about a guitar that I would jump so quickly? There are sporadically posts on these forums where we all describe our dream Private Stock builds and get great ideas of different configurations. It is a fun exercise and something I never really thought I would have the privilege to experience. It must have been early 2023 when a similar post came up and I really started thinking about it. I ended up torn between a Tremonti stop tail or a SC594. Both models are perfect in my eyes and I was more focused on getting a specific look as I knew each model would work for me. I found myself to be very fortunate last year and I actually started the PS process and chose the Tremonti stop tail (expected this fall). It left me dreaming of the possibilities of a specific SC594 build that I never expected to actually see.
My heart was set on a SC594, with a quilted top, in a blue/grey/green type finish, natural back, and a rosewood neck. It is not something I have seen often. There have been a few Wood Library runs with similar configurations, but they were always priced as new. Used ones just did not seem to exist... Until Saturday morning! The list said "PRS McCarty 594 Wood Library - Rosewood Neck" and I froze. The thumbnail of the quilted top was stunning and I knew I had to jump on it! It has been a rough few days being sick and having to wait, but it arrived today. I gave it a good cleaning, setup, and a new set of 11's before a nice 1 hour test run. It is fantastic! The rosewood neck is like butter. As I have a few other 594's, it does not tread much new ground for me, but visually it is stunning. I could not be more happy with the new addition. In the end, finding a used WL in the exact configuration I would have used for a PS is an excellent result! Now I am far less concerned about selling the two guitars I listed as this one will more than make up for their departures.
The finish is "faded evergreen" (it looks like a mix between charcoal and trampas green):
SC594 Siblings: 2021 Trampas Green, 2018 Faded Evergreen, 2018 McCarty Burst
Color comparison: 2022 Tremonti Charcoal, 2018 SC594 Faded Evergreen, and 2021 SC594 Trampas Green:
