That is a wonderful top, almost looks like a jungle finish. Dragon 1s can be hot but also great! Killer axe
Wow. Amazing that it hasn’t faded in 25 years. Green can be prone to it. What a great grab.
If you swap pickups: d1’s will net you a nice return to buy pretty much any boutique you could want. And a chance to upgrade from 5 way knob to a McCarty like set up similar to the vela.
A Combo You Would Likely Really Dig And That Works In That Guitar Would Be BKP Black Dogs Or A Mix Of Mule Bridge And Riff Raff Neck As Another Option.Yeah, I’m thinking Wolfetone Dr Vintage and a 3-way if I decide to switch.
Someone had changed my rotary to a three way in my Custom 22 that I got used. I had the rotary put back in. It’s a Helluva lot faster when you’re gigging and going from a clean rhythm to a gained out solo sound. If you find the pickups too hot, lower them and get ready for a beeeg surprise.Yeah, I’m thinking Wolfetone Dr Vintage and a 3-way if I decide to switch.

This is solid adviceI definitely wouldn’t sell the D1’s. Keep them so that if you ever want to sell that guitar, you can put it back to stock condition. There’s not that many Custom 22’s with stoptails out there, relatively speaking. Put whatever pickups you want in it, just keep the stock pickups and electronics so it can always be put back to stock condition.

Are thinking a dr Vintage set? I have about the same guitar with a set Marshallhead mk2's. Wonderful combination.
