NGD: Step up to Core

Congratulations...

I have a 2011 cu24 with 5909s too and it is a killer guitar.

Guitar sounds good no matter what amp it's plugged in to. You'd have to try REALLY hard to get a bad tone out of it.
Can’t agree more it’s just immediate, it’s there, the tone and volume roll on and off incredibly well, it’s just awesome

I’d read a lot about it but found it a bit harder to get more details on the rounded 59/09 but man am I a happy guy
Not sure how different round bobbins are?

My 2011 obviously has round bobbins and dirt birds.

I have some extra 5909s, just put square bobbin in my vela and about to put covered bridge in my McCarty.

So far round bobbins are my favorite but they're also in my Cu24 and it's overall a cut above. Love that damn thing! It's a special guitar.

I was like you.. had a hot rodded to the max se Cu24 and picked up my core Cu24 and was like.. why did I waste my time before?!?

Well fiddlesticks…. Decided to doublecheck the guitar with PRS and just got the following, seems this guy just decided on what he’s selling 😂 never mind I guess as it plays wonderfully well and I love the neck - wider and bigger than my SE 24-08 for sure ..guess when you have to buy online then there’s a trust and a lesson, I had the serial I could have asked PRS first…

My guess is he copied over a description from another guitar he had as after the sale the title was changed.

Still, absolutely love it so there’s that.

2011 Custom 24, with a Flame Maple 10-top, Mahogany neck with a Wide-Thin profile, East Indian Rosewood fretboard with bird inlays, PRS tremolo bridge, 59/09 treble and bass pickups, finished in Amber Black, with nickel hardware.

Actually now questioning the info from PRS, their 2011 catalogue shows the Custom 24 came with Pattern thin or Pattern regular, no wide thin etc I guess maybe Pattern thin

It depends when the guitar was ordered. PRS has said that if a dealer ordered a certain model year guitar it would be built to those specs even after a catalog spec change, and even if it has a serial number of the next model year. Etc.

As it happens, the difference between Pattern Thin and Wide Thin is very, very tiny.

The important thing is that you're digging it!

Hey, if you love it and didn't pay a premium for the features... might as well keep loving it.

When I got my SSH a few years back, the seller advertised it as having an ebony board, and it is in fact rosewood. Though I love the feel of ebony, as it turns out, I'm happy it's not, because I think the note attack would be too bright and aggressive on this particular guitar.

First, congrats on the new guitar!

Concerning the specs: I grew up in the era before the internet and its rulebook on guitars. Back then we just plugged & played (and we got discounts for wear marks, rather than being charged more for a 'relic' or 'mojo' ;) ). If the guitar looked, felt, and sounded good-- it was good!

Today it's difficult to put aside the internet spec-sheet bias we unconsciously absorb-- heck, I momentarily considered returning one of my now favorite guitars due to a slight gap between the neck & body. I thought I was above such petty thinking--LOL!!

Looks like you've found a guitar you like a lot-- so embrace it-- play the frets off of it in happiness & health! :D

Also just rechecked the hang tag which does indeed state Pattern Reg 🤷‍♂️
