NGD Santa loves Walnut!

I've loved building instruments from Claro Walnut for decades , it's between mahogany and maple tonally , and can be incredible looking. This is one of my favorite builds with TV Jones Filtertons Black walnut neck through and body , ebony 24 fret . My grandson will inherit this

Back in the good ol’ days, I used to take a bunch of walnut to PRS for PS builds. I particularly like this back:

But maybe the most unusual piece is this Bastogne walnut I sent to Ron Thorn for this carved top:

Most people never see it but there is some Mahogany out there that is also OMG...this is Sinker .. unfortunately the sets are to this for a carve top and $$$$$$$$$

The mahogany from ”the tree” isn’t too shabby:

I bought this back and sides while at the NAMM show years ago for $750. Thought it was expensive. I should have bought every set I could find.

You can't believe the looks I get when I see wood like that and comment ... OH that would make a nice guitar.. I just tell them it's what I do .. they still stare...

I have an acoustic with claro walnut back and sides. It sounds phenomenal and projects like few guitars I’ve come across. It was relatively inexpensive and not fancy or ornate, but I haven’t found and acoustic that I like the sound of more. My neighbor found one very similar but I thought mine sounded a hair better. Very close though. I haven’t ever played an electric with walnut.

Of course I'm a sucker for Cocobolo , although it is one of the most toxic woods to work with , I made this for my 20th anni as a luthier ..Cocobolo/Flame Maple/Ebiara /Quilted Maple with a Mahogany/ebony 24 fret neck through TV Jones Powertron/ Setzer/ Powertron + pickups , with a 5 way , mast vol and tone and a blend pot for neck and bridge

UPS says it's "delayed dued to weather" but they give no update and won't provide one ..yet ... I could tell you what I think UPS stand for .. but it's the Holidays so I'll just say argh ..

Update from UPS ( the vendor is 700 miles north in Indiana , Kentucky is in the middle)
Significant weather events across several regions of the U.S. are impacting the UPS Air and Ground network, including UPS hubs in Louisville, Kentucky and Rockford, Illinois. As a result, some delivery and pickup services in these areas will be affected.

We will work to ensure the safety of our employees while minimizing effects on service. Contingency plans are in place to help ensure that shipments arrive at their final destinations as quickly as conditions permit.

The shop said they packed it well and the hubs are usually heated ... fingers crossed and prayers for all those on the roads , SAFE travels.
