The band I just joined mainly uses 7 strings and I wanted a backup 7. I was looking at getting maybe a ibanez 7421, but I found this beauty! I have a BKP alinco nailbomb and black pickup rings I need to install on it. Im also thinking about putting schaller locking tuners and graphtech saddles on it. I also want to sand the neck and make it into a satin finish. Im starting to see I don't like gloss on a neck anymore. This is my first PRS and I have to say the SE is awesome. It feels and plays great! Only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have any forearm contour but no PRS does. Overall for the price this guitar is kick ass!

Nice! Welcome to the PRS SE-7 club! And the PRS club in general!

I really like my 7-stringer, also recently acquired (thanks Santa!). Which gauge strings you using? I've swapped out for 10-64 (light top, heavy bottom), I found the stock bass strings a little too flabby for my tastes, but I know other folks really like the stock gauges.

Do you mean "forearm contour"? I suppose the shape of the PRS bodies are not super-contoured like a strat, but I guess it doesn't bother me - certainly less bothersome than a tele or even Les Paul. There's enough contour to not bother me. :dontknow:

Yes I do I just cant spell! Thanks for the welcome! Right now I think it has a .59-10 set of daddarrios but which I have some to put on it again. The biggest I have used was a .62 which I liked from the EB cobalt set.

That thing is hot.

That thing is beautiful.

The recent batch of Amethyst 7-string SEs and some other recent SE NGD threads that I have seen, including my own, seem to have quite remarkable flame tops going on. I know they are "only" veneers, but they still look great. Kudos to PRS for letting the SE line steal some of the 10-top thunder of the core line (even if only, pun intended, superficially).

Yeah, the D'Addario 10-59 set is the stock set. I have a set of EB 10-62 Cobalts in-bound, to try on my next string change. That will probably determine my preferences - either 62 or 64 as that seventh string. But who knows? I have recently started to re-think the gauges on my HB (going from 11s to 10s) and my regular 6-strings (thinking of going from regular 10s to hybrid 10s - light tops heavy bottoms).

And to think I used only 9s on my electrics for decades prior to last year...

So, what is the radius on these? The one thing I don't like about PRS is the 10" radius. Please tell me it's flatter than that.

SE tops have been intense lately....

I can't find any specs on it, so I assume. like all other PRSi that don't specify, that it is indeed 10" radius.

It feels like all my other PRSi, so that would be consistent.

Great guitar man! Congrats! Santa got me one of those too! I'm also considering schaller locking tuners and a hipshot bridge, both in black, I think the hardware color change will look awesome, I do like the stock pickups tone, too bad I can't find 7 string pickup covers for them, also thinking about a set of BPK PUs with black rings, I've ordered a set of nailbombs for my ZM so I'm thinking warpigs for the 7

I wanted gold covered PUs for my amethyst SE 7 and ended up going with BKP Emeralds (PAF-ish A4 neck, medium-hot A5 bridge). They sound spectacular.

I don't think I have a picture of my amethyst SE 7 since I put black PU rings on it. Maybe I'll remedy that tonight...

WMS must have really gotten a good batch of wood for the veneers, I've been eyeing a Ken Susi LTD and they have an amazing flame also. (I'm assuming the KS7 is made at WMS)
