Well not exactly new guitar day today but.....

I just started playing again after a 20 + year layoff. I picked up a Jackson Soloist in November but it just wasn't what I wanted as my everyday player. It had an EMG 81/85 combo and I wasn't getting the tone I wanted.

I picked this up a few weeks ago but then had a pro setup done and added a set of Schaller locking tuners and a set of Dragon II's installed.

I just got it back and I have to say, the pro set up, new locking tuners, and upgraded pickups turned this very good guitar into a fantastic guitar! The tech that set it up and installed the pickups has several core models and he told me this is the closest SE he has seen to a core model.

It now stays in tune and the difference in tone from the stock pickups is night and day. With the stock pickups it sounded ok but seemed a little muddy especially on the clean channel. With the Dragon II's every note is crystal clear and sounds amazing.

With less than $800 into it all said and done I'm a very happy guy. It's hard to tell from the quick and dirty photos but it has one of the nicest tops I've seen on a SE.

What do you guys think?

These photos are in natural light (before the mods were done) and you can really see how nice the top is.

Nice, that's a beauty. I'm hoping to pick up a 30th Anniversary Custom 24 in the next couple of weeks. Did you keep the stock nut?

Thanks guys!

I did keep the stock nut. But, with that being said....

I bought the guitar slightly used. To be truthful I couldn't tell it had been played at all but the original owner changed the strings to 10's and they didn't work so well with the stock nut. When I replaced the strings I changed them to 9's and the stock nut works fine. I may change it over to a Graphtech anyway though. Just because.....

have your guitar tech widen the nut for ten's. i did this on my se sc because i liked the stock nut. Awesome top on your se and i love the mod's too. congrats.

Wow she's incredible, you're right too it is one of the nicest tops I've seen on a SE. I also hope your other hobby is photography; very professional shots with the leather couch! Congrats!

Excellent! I've had both my SE's come with 10's from Sweetwater but I had them widen the nut slots as part of the deal. No tuning issues after the strings had been stretched enough.

Beautiful!

IDK why lately, but I've been indulging myself with Korean guitars, Gretsch, PRS, Swing... they're just doing some crazy work.

Congratulations on that beauty!
