Well not exactly new guitar day today but.....
I just started playing again after a 20 + year layoff. I picked up a Jackson Soloist in November but it just wasn't what I wanted as my everyday player. It had an EMG 81/85 combo and I wasn't getting the tone I wanted.
I picked this up a few weeks ago but then had a pro setup done and added a set of Schaller locking tuners and a set of Dragon II's installed.
I just got it back and I have to say, the pro set up, new locking tuners, and upgraded pickups turned this very good guitar into a fantastic guitar! The tech that set it up and installed the pickups has several core models and he told me this is the closest SE he has seen to a core model.
It now stays in tune and the difference in tone from the stock pickups is night and day. With the stock pickups it sounded ok but seemed a little muddy especially on the clean channel. With the Dragon II's every note is crystal clear and sounds amazing.
With less than $800 into it all said and done I'm a very happy guy. It's hard to tell from the quick and dirty photos but it has one of the nicest tops I've seen on a SE.
What do you guys think?

These photos are in natural light (before the mods were done) and you can really see how nice the top is.
