First, I'm new here. My first post. I've had a lot guitars, various brands, prices and quality. Up until recently, I had never owned a PRS. I have a local dealer, but they primarily deal in the SE series, which are nice guitars for the buck, not really my bag. I had played a few mid to higher end used PRS guitars, but none spoke to me. A friend had just traded for a Seafoam DGT, and on a whim, I worked a deal with him to land my first PRS. It's great build, and an obvious quality guitar, but I was left with that same feeling that it just didn't do it for me. I couldn't really see it getting play time ahead of my other guitars. Then I saw an ad for a PRS Hiland. I did a little research on it, and worked a deal with the guy via email.
We each traveled an hour or so to meet and did a swap - my DGT for his Hiland. Initially, I was dubious, as the bolt on neck versus the set neck made me feel the value wasn't quite in my favour. But I liked the top and the thought of the maple board made me chance it. So far, I've had the guitar for a little over 2 weeks (1 gig) and I'm in love. It's fantastic. It's a great guitar on its own, styled like a PRS, with a great range of tones from Fender to Gibson. A few friends asked me how it feels, and really, the best way to describe it is like saying it's a really really really well built Fender. Better than anything I've played that's come out of Fender's Custom Shop. I still like Fender (currently only 1 in the Stable, a well worn in and great player '96 Std) and as brands go, typically I'm a Gibson guy (5 of those) but this guitar is fast becoming a favourite. It just plays like a guitar should. Low action, with no buzz, smooth bends, and a solid trem. I have to say this is a really pleasant surprise. I never expected it to fit so well. She's a full on keeper.
Here's a few pics to show off my new love! Cheers!
