It took about two years and there was some turbulence at the final stretch…but she’s finally home! My private stock is a McCarty piezo with Tremonti in the treble position, 5708 in the bass position, 2 mini toggles, adjustable bridge, pattern thin rosewood neck, African mahogany back and one piece quilted maple top finished in frostbite glow with matching birds of a feather fretboard and headstock inlay.
The guitar design tries to honor my 20+ year guitar journey. I wanted to take the tones of my Tremonti guitars but implant them on a body style I grew up on. I love the feel and sound of rosewood necks which I learned from owning my wood libraries. And I really wanted a piezo alongside the mini toggles to cover all my clean, ambient, edge of break up style sounds. The result is everything I could ever have hoped for.
If you’re thinking about a private stock, I have to say the glow finishes are something else. From certain angles the yellow base tone underneath comes out and makes it look almost like sepia and from other angles the blue/grey contrast takes over and makes it look much more black and white with hints of blue. It’s simply stunning.
I had PRS write my mom’s name on the headstock and paperwork. She passed two years ago from cancer. The guitar date is actually exactly two years from the date of her funeral. She studied piano at Julliard when she was younger and encouraged my love of music. There are many guitars out there and most are lovely but this one…this one is mine.
