NGD today! DC 245 Ted.

I love it! It really came out great. The finish is a little different than my MSC, the smoked burst edges are more subtle, and I liked how that turned out.

At first I was a bit disappointed that the quilt was not more pronounced, but after seeing it a few times today, I really dig the top, it has some great vintage looking "Beauty of the Burst" sort of things going on, which is what I was going for, so in that regard I am pleased with it. It is one of those tops where the quilt visually moves when you change the angle, looks cool.

Initial tone report is that it sounds killer. Will A/B with Alan's new DC soon.

Body is Obeche BTW. DGT controls. 5815's.

Beautiful axe, finish is so warm and glowing on that top. I've seen the DC245 - DGT electronics combination on one other PS and it seems an ideal match. Great build, enjoy!

Thanks guys, for all the kind comments!

Got some time to play this one tonight. HOLY COW!! There is just something amazing about this one, the way it plays, feels, and sounds totally trumps the looks! As it should be with a PRS Private Stock.

It is nice and light with the Obeche body, just over 6.5 pounds (6 pounds 9 ounces) but despite that packs some HUGE tone!! When I do the Obeche-bodied guitars, I have them bring up multiple slabs of Obeche, much to Paul Mile's chagrin as the stuff really smells like dead fish unfinished. ;) I do that to select the one that rings the best, and it certainly seems to have paid off on this one! The way this guitar resonates is terrific. To me, I think that is driven by the tonal characteristics of the body, the neck and the board, and the way the "sum of the parts" comes together. This one is absolutely magical, very alive.

Also instead of doing a Pattern Neck carve on this one, I did good old Wide Fat, it is nice and beefy and feels great.

This one to me is more so the "destination" of my PRS adventure than anything else before it. This is everything "Ted", very true to the formula of the original 2009 Ted McCarty Limited Run I fell in love with. You will notice this has a Cherry Back, not the Antique Natural brown Private Stock back I usually do, that was intentional. Also notice the Yellow Stained Maple Binding (similar to the yellow painted plastic bindings of the original Ted's, but with a much higher level of fit and finish), and the flame Maple Headstock from the MSC.

For me it is like the best of the DC Ted's (the production run and the Willcutt's runs), the MSC and a vintage "Beauty of the Burst" vibe, all wrapped into one! And with the lightweight Obeche formula, with huge tone. The Private Stock team hit the ball out of the park for me on this one, thanks team!

These new 5815 pickups are GREAT! To me it sounds like everything I have liked about both the 5909's and the 5708's, combined into one set of pickups! The chimeyness, clarity and touch responsiveness of the 5708's, with the extra bite that the 5909's have. They clean up incredibly well by turning the volume on the guitar down. My initial impressions on the split tones are excellent as well.

This one will be my "new" number one gigging guitar, replacing the Aquamarine DC 245 Sig with 408's (which is in at the PTC for a refin right now). Bummer that my gigs are fewer and farther between since I changed companies and the company band fizzled out, but we are doing a gig together in April, looking forward to playing this guitar then!

From the PSF Thread - Very cool that Paul himself checked out my guitar before it left the factory!! I hope he feels that this one turned out to be as magical as I do! ;)

Today I went downstairs to the Private Stock final assembly area to get a little teaser photo for you all.

After I took a picture of this pretty guitar the man walked in because he had an appointment today to test that very guitar before it leaves the factory this week.

good timing

All other things noted, your header eagle looks snazzy, brother. And the top is so mirage-looking in its one-piece splendor! Sweet finish!
