This is the 6th 594 that I have purchased in the pursuit of the perfect-for-me LP-style guitar. In fact, the first PRS I ever bought was a 594 around when they first came out.

I kept selling them from not being able to bond with the Pattern Vintage neck. For me, the sun rises and sets with the PRS Pattern neck profile (Thank you Paul!). My main guitar is a Pattern-necked PRS Hollowbody II Piezo in antique white that just leaves most everything else in the dust and has prompted me to sell off a lot of great guitars that didn't get played. I have a DGT wood library in antique white that covers a lot of ground, but I'm always keeping an eye out for the perfect vintage LP inspired guitar.

Previous 594's, all sold:
Core DC Black Gold Wrap
Core SC Purple P90
Core DC Violet
Core DC Antique White
Private Stock DC Koa

I was randomly browsing and happened upon a Private Stock 594 for sale that PRS had made for well known vintage guitar collector and shop owner, Dave Rogers. He and Paul have worked closely together for decades, so I knew that any guitar made specifically for him by PRS would be something special. I also knew that Dave is a vintage guy, so I wasn't concerned to see him selling a newer guitar that didn't work out for him - you can't keep them all and many of those vintage dudes haven't seen the light ;). But the most important thing... It had a Pattern neck on a 594!

2024 McCarty 594 Private Stock Specs:
Neck Carve: PATTERN on a 594!!!
Color: McCarty Glow
Finish: High gloss nitro Neck: Marine finish
Fingerboard Wood: Nicaraguan Rosewood w/Ivoroid binding
Neck Wood: Mahogany
Back Wood: African Mahogany
Side Dots and Inlays: Green Ripple Abalone (solid birds)
Bone Nut
Pickups: 58/15LT TCI
Electronics: 2 vol, 2 tone, toggle
Weight: 7.8

Everything about this guitar is perfect for me, as if I had ordered it myself. There is nothing I would change. The "marine" finish neck has a raw wood feel to it that is super comfortable, the outrageously perfect top in McCarty glow is stunning and it is my ideal weight for this style of guitar. I really like the Nicaraguan Rosewood fingerboard and I love the green abalone. Though I typically don't prefer bound fingerboards, this one is done so well and the binding is not too thick so I love it. I'm a huge fan of the latest tuners and pickups which this has, being a 2024. (I did a Pepsi challenge with new TCI vs non-TCI of the same pickup model and I definitely preferred TCIs)

10/10 for me. I still prefer 25" scale of my HBII Piezo for my main guitar, but for a LP-inspired guitar to have on hand, I cannot imagine a better instrument than this 594. I've owned Gil Yarons, vintage G, G's best effort newer CS models including a Brazilian R9, Nik Hubers, etc. and this one does the things with better playability and feel than any of them.

And look at that top! It's never going anywhere :)

Very nice, yeah I love the 594 in concept I just can not stand those necks. I am more of a pattern thin guy but can do pattern, Vintage is definate no from me. More of a 60's LP or the Asymmetrical slim taper is my preferred Les Paul. . I mean I get it some people love thick guitar necks, but I am not one. I had a PRS S2 594 Thinline for a long time, I really liked it, S2 finish was nothing really special vintage cherry and neck was kind of sticky.

Then a Suhr Single cut, came along. Super rare they only did one run ever and will not do another even as a custom build. I know I inquired. I traded the PRS and a couple other lower end ones I wasn't using for the Suhr. But I would so love for them to put pattern thin on these even for like a year or two.

I used to have a mix of vintage to new, but PRS changed all of that and I see absolutely no reason to own vintage guitars for me, personally now. It's not worth the problems and the newer PRS's in particular do absolutely everything. Those Suhr SCs look amazing and I'm sure they're well done.

My hands are exactly average size but I prefer larger necks vs thinner, though I'm not a shredder or fast player. A Nik Huber Orca 59 converted me to larger necks and I learned I get less crampy and arthritic with them. My favorite non-PRS neck being the .90-.99"-ish Fender '59 John English, which they renamed 59 Large C. It was based on a specific original 59 burst that Fender master builder John English cloned on a duplicator and has become quite popular. Wildwood orders these a lot on their models, especially the WW10's. I just can't click with the Pattern Vintage, but I know it's super popular and most people love it.

Now that's a classic beauty! Painfully easy on the eye!

How different is the pattern over pattern vintage? My 594 is obviously pattern vintage, and I love it dearly.
PV is thicker in different places, just has a different feel that many love but I have to work at it. For me Pattern feels like it was made for my hands and the guitar neck disappears when playing it.

Sounds like a neck I need to experience by the sounds of things! Only just bought my 594 last week, sounds like i need to up my game to Private Stock 🤣
