NGD: Paul's Guitar

Nice one, Pete!

The 408 family of pickups have always had true single coil sounds, but the TCI tuning seems to take it to a new level of authenticity, tone-wise.

Those narrow humbuckers sure are great. They really excel in a live band situation. I haven't tried the TCI version yet. The originals seem subtle on their own, but on stage I'm very impressed by how big a difference there is between humbucking and single modes.

What a beautiful guitar !! I love the copperhead finish. Congrats!

The TCI pups on the newer Paul’s guitars are amazing. You should check out the version of Paul’s TCI on steroids called the Modern Eagle V. Here’s a link of my comparison video between Paul’s with TCI vs Paul’s Brushstroke 24. Big difference in sound between the two. I agree with you the true single coil sound with Paul’s TCI is incredible. Made this video for the forum, not for likes or subscribers, not trying to highjack your thread just sharing an amateur video with too much reverb. Lol

I agree that the original 408s had a lot bigger difference between the humbucker and singlecoil tones in a live band situation versus just playing on its own at lower volumes.

Yes, I am very highly interested in the ME-V, I am hoping for a Limited Run or Wood Library version sometime in the future. :)

Thanks with regards to your demo! I actually had already listened to that, I did extensive searches for any and all demos before pulling the trigger on this one. It was very helpful, I appreciate you taking the time to do that!

Congrats! Such a nice top!

Why does every guitar look so good in your photos? Can I send mine to your house for a photo?

Been loving the new Paul’s ever since I landed the prototype. The tone is just so unique and catchy! So I feel so excited for anyone who lands one, be it SE to PS!

So you guys have seen that since I have returned from Hiatus, I have been very impressed with the 2020 models with the Nitro finishes and the TCI pickups.

I discovered that while I was hiatus that the Paul's Guitar was refreshed with some new pickups, which now have true Singlecoils. I hadn't owned a Paul's Guitar previously, but I did have a couple of Core 408 guitars back in the day, and also I had a DC 245 Private Stock built with 408 pickups. That DC 245 PS was my primary gigging guitar for a couple of years.

I wasn't really proactively seeking out the Paul's guitar, but as I posted on BrianC's thread, I came across this video from Baxter at Casino Guitars, and I was impressed with the Bluesy tones he was getting out of the guitar, both in Humbucker and Singlecoil modes. Those Bluesy tones he was getting are right in my wheelhouse! I have really been enjoying my 2020 25" McCarty, so I knew a 25" DC with a Pattern Neck would be something I would like, combined with the tones I was hearing in the video:

I ended up grabbing the exact guitar in the video. (Baxter was a great guy to deal with!)

(The guitar came with Ivoroid Tuner Knobs, but I decided to try Ebony Knobs, I like those better on this guitar. They kind of match together with the Black Bobbins on the guitar...)

My primary wheelhouse right now is the 2020 SC and DC 594s, and the 2020 25" McCarty. This guitar is a nice complement to those, this one to me has the best Singlecoil tones of the bunch, while still having a great Bridge Humbucker tone for ballsy Classic Rock and Bluesy tones.

I am glad I tried it!

That is scrumptious! Nice!

Nice one, Pete! One of my favorite models and color. When I got my first one back in 2013, it was instant satisfaction. It scratched a certain itch... I’m definitely intrigued with the new pups. An incredibly versatile guitar... enjoy!

Thanks, everyone!

One week in with the new Paul's Guitar, I am more and more impressed. It is a terrific complement to my many 5815 LT Humbucker Guitars (SC 594s, DC 594s, 25" McCartys), the Soapbar DC 594, the Silver Sky and my Swamp Ash/Maple/Maple Wood Library Cu22 Special SH.

I applaud this model, as it is sort of a chameleon, it can cover Gibson sort of tones and Fender sort of tones. I was worried that it would be trying to be a Jack of All Trades and a Master of None, as they say. My experience has been the opposite, it has Gibson "ish" tones and Fender "ish" tones, but really just has a unique voice of its own. If you adjust your expectations to be open to that, it is a terrific guitar!

Also I have pulled together a great selection of amplifiers this year, and it has been fun and interesting to see how this guitar reacts to different amps, amp settings and Boost/OD pedals in front of amps. It is definitely amp sensitive and different than the 5815 family of pickups in how you set up the amps to extract the best tones. So a bit of a learning curve to figure it all out, but worth the effort.

The Bridge pickup is quite amazing, both in Humbucker and in Singlecoil modes. (I am predominantly a Bridge Pickup kind of guy anyway, so that is my primary context for any guitar, and this one shines in that regard.)

Also of note - the volume and tone controls on the guitar have a HUGE impact on the tones as well. (It would be interesting to have a Paul's Guitar with 2 Volume and 2 Tone controls like a 594 for more control in the middle position. Hmm, perhaps a Private Stock idea?)

Nice to have choices for different tones! It really helps to mix it up and keep it fresh, things will never be stale or boring with all of the choices in tones PRS gives you these days. (Which is great, when we are all "Sheltering in Place" at home - this is good therapy!) ;)

What a fantastic guitar. So many great tones! It's funny, I was gassing for one for a while but managed to put it on the back burner, that is until you posted this. So thanks ... thanks a lot, Pete.

If you can afford it, I highly recommend finding one out there!!!
