I finally have my "do-it-all" gig guitar, a P24.
I was going to look into one of these this fall, but stumbled across a pretty good deal on a new one, in a finish color I hadn't fully considered before: Black Gold Burst. I was looking at Eriza Verde (burst or normal), or one of the green or blue fades, or blood orange. Maybe violet. But when I saw this one online, and how well it matched my Archon head and cab (in limited edition Black Gold!), I jumped on it. My apologies for the lousy cell phone pics. I actually took some nice picture with a DSLR I happened to have here at work, but all external ports of our PCs are locked out of accessing "external storage devices" for protection.
Despite looking pretty consistent, flame-wise, that is not a ten top. The flame fades out just beyond the tone knob:
I really do like the flame on it, the flames are almost feathered:
It came with the two-tone birds - is that paua/abalone? Or something else?:
I had been considering getting a P24 Artist Package, with one of the different finishes like Obsidian, with an ebony fretboard and maybe a maple neck. But I decided I really liked my other PRSi with hog necks and rosewood fretboards, and didn't think the upcharge was worth it in this case. This came with a pattern regular neck, which certainly feels different from the Wide-Fat and Wide-Thin necks I otherwise have on most of my other PRSi - if anything, it feels most similar to my SAS, which seems to have a pattern-regular-sized neck (even though that year didn't have them).
I cranked it up through my pedal board into a monitor/acoustic amp. Sounds really nice! I need to get it home and compare to my Spruce HB with piezo. The P24 certainly sounded just as authentically acoustic as the HB, as best I could remember.
It will become my main gigging guitar, or perhaps share the main spotlight with my HB, when not using my SE Angelus Custom. I really look forward to switching from an acoustic sound to full out distorted rock'n'roll for a blazing solo using the trem and all 24 frets!
I'll post some better pics when I get it home into the sunlight and/or can get the photos off my DSLR.
