I posted a thread a few weeks back concerning S2 vs core. I was originally gonna buy an S2 Singlecut. Well, after talking with the wife, she suggested that if the prices were fairly close between a new S2 and a used core, that I should just buy the core. She knows I'd want one anyway, even after buying the S2.

So I pulled the trigger a few weeks back after finding this guitar on GC's website. They had it listed for $2200. I was looking at a few others on Reverb in the same price range.... but with tax, this guitar would have been more expensive than any of the other prospects. I had to get the price down.

So I called and asked if they'd take less for it. He checked with his manager and asked me "what do you want to pay for it?". I said "As close to $2000 as you can get". He went back to his manager and came back after a few minutes and said "We can do $2000". SOLD!

After waiting a week and a half for shipping, it's finally in my hands. And wow, GC's picture didn't do it justice.

That's nice!!!!!

Thanks! It's not a 10-top but I still think she's gorgeous. It was hilarious when I picked it up from GC. Two employees were standing there when I opened it, and we all let out a big "woooooow" as soon as we saw it. Of course, my local GC rarely ever carries PRSi.

This is one of those finishes that I go back and forth on. This one makes me go back to liking it! Very cool, congrats!

Aye Laddie, you found the pot o' gold, for sure! Beautiful!

I do have one question though. Did the 2014 Custom 24's come standard with coil taps/splits? Pulled on the tone knob and it wouldn't move.

Not really a huge deal if it doesn't have it, unless it was supposed to.

It has them on the blade switch. From the PRS site:

BLADE POSITIONS

  • Position 1: Bridge humbucker
  • Position 2: Bridge humbucker with neck singlecoil
  • Position 3: Bridge and neck humbuckers
  • Position 4: Neck singlecoil with bridge singlecoil
  • Position 5: Neck humbucker

Good to know, thanks! This being my first American PRS, I had no clue.

Excellent choice, man! Glad you took the time to think it through and that the Mrs. was able to see the value in getting the instrument that would fit your long term want/need best.

I generally prefer the non ten tops. They're more interesting to me.

My buddy said the same about the non-10-top. He said he likes the imperfections. I'm not gonna say that a guitar can be too perfect, but I tend to agree with him. I'm happy with my decision.

My wife definitely sees that this is an investment. I told her that most of the lost value has already my dropped off, and if I ever sold it.... I wouldn't lose much (if any). But she also knows that I want to teach my 5 month old son to play eventually and that this might be the guitar I pass down to him at some point.

Congrats. Well worth the wait, I'm sure. I'm a sucker for green guitars. Being new to PRS myself I have not seen that particular finish. I would definitely have gone with that colour if I had seen it / had it been available in my part of the world.

My Paul's guitar came with an artist top (not artist package) and my 513 is a non 10 top.
I prefer the figuring on the 513. As you said, it's slight imperfections make it more interesting.

That is a real looker...you chose well, and kudos to your wife for the buy-in / support.

Some of the most interesting-looking guitars in my stable are non-10-tops.

Great score, your other half has great insight, but does she know that
soon enough you'll be hankering for an SC? :D
congrats, enjoy it in good health

Well, I have been wanting a Tremonti for ages but decided to go a different route when it was time to buy.

Do I love this guitar so far? Yes. Would I still like to have a Tremonti? Yes, but my wife doesn't need to know that yet
