Well, I guess my guitar diet is technically still on, as I'm still down one piece for the year, and the new onle only weighs 7 pounds, 7 ounces.
I've wanted a set of 85/15's since they came out but couldn't justify yet another guitar. Two weeks ago I came close to snagging one just like this but passed on it. Another one showed up at Parkway this week and i couldn't let it go.
I A/B/C'd this one with a 30th anniversary Custom 24 (85/15's, hog neck), and a McCarty 594 (58/15's). The Mc594 had tons of sustain but was heavy and that not bright. The 30th Cu24 was brighter than the Mc594, but it couldn't touch the mids and articulation that the maple neck adds to this one. I played them through an Archon (my normal amp), a Louis KR12, and an Analog Outfitters Organic. This guitar is fabulous through everything and easily won the race for the sonic space i was looking to fill.
Mash Green is a hard color to photograph with my pedestrian gear, but here's the top:
... the one piece back....
... and the back of the neck.
