NGD - First Time PRS Owner

That's a killer guitar and a hell of a way to join the world of PRS. Now go put some dings of your own on it!

Wow that is a truly amazing top. Congratulations. PRS truly creates works of art in their instruments.

Hey HTTP410, congrats. I am one of the other February 2021 newbies to PRS ownership and this forum. Similar situation as you in some senses. Wanted a PRS forever, but could not justify. Over the past year, I have been playing a LOT and decided I may as well have what I like! So I got my Wood Library McCarty 594 Hollowbody II (top of page 4 in this thread https://forums.prsguitars.com/threads/the-great-green-guitar-thread.46477/page-4 ). Mine too, arrived with some blemishes and scratches. I contacted dealer (I had done a very details arrival and unboxing video, so there was no question it was there when I received it) and they gave me a few hundred bucks back. There was no way I was sending this guitar back because, after admiring these works of art for decades, this one sent chills down my spine when I viewed it. Bad news for you is, after playing it, I was so excited that I felt I needed another one, and purchased my second PRS two days ago. So that is two PRS purchases in a single month, my first PRS and my second PRS just 3 weeks later. You've been warned!!! Welcome to the club and based on my experience as a less than mediocre guitar player, these gems will allow you to do things that were too difficult on other guitars, so JAM ON! And like everyone else says, if you want it to be a prima donna, don't bother playing it because normal wear and tear is going to produce blemishes. I learned that when I was riding Harley's and gave up on trying to keep them perfect! I bought them to ride. I bought these guitars to play!!

Appreciate the warning, Moondog. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been looking for the next one. o_O I agree with you that there's just something that makes the PRS feel special. I went to check out the pics of yours but the links to the images appear to be broken. Would love to see it.

I'm not so much worried about it staying perfect because I literally play it every single day including occasionally taking it to lessons. I guess I just wanted the wear and tear to be from the hard work I'm putting in. Probably silly, I know. Regardless, I'm loving it and that's all that really matters in the end.

Thanks and take care,
Brian

Huh, not quite sure why images would not be showing. I can see them in the thread I sent you. Here are the direct links (perhaps it is because of browser settings as this is not a https site, and if you have your browser set to not show certain things from non-secure sites, that could be preventing them or showing them as broken):

As for wear and tear, I too want all scratches to be my scratches!!! At the same time, when purchasing something at this price level, it should be flawless on arrival. I had the same experience last year with my Martin J-40 that I purchased. Arrived with some minor imperfections (white dots, very tiny, in a couple of locations but noticeable in the right light - they appear to be trapped in the top lacquer layer). My question is, how is this happening in the first place, and second how is it being missed on inspection!!! Anyway, first world problems.

Post some links in the Studio & Stage section if you have anything we can listen to!!! Some of my work is linked in there (https://forums.prsguitars.com/threads/moondog-wilys-greatest-hits.47221/) but only my Moondog Wily stuff! My other artists will have to wait and some of my material will never get posted here (just not the right place IMO)!

Rock on Brother Brian!

Your guitar is incredible! I can see green in my future. lol Just as an FYI, here's what I see when viewing your post in the Green thread:

This is because Chrome will try to load all resources via HTTPS by default which causes your images to fail to load because your site isn't secure. I deal with this all the time at work. :D Just wanted to help close the loop on that.

I also checked out your recordings. They're great. Appreciate you sharing those.

Figured it was https related as I had mentioned in my reply. I guess I will have to get a certificate considering that all sites will pretty much have to be https eventually. I have been a programmer (mostly web work) for 25 years, but I am usually in the back end making stuff happen with PHP and the databases, not pushing the pixels on the front side, so I usually don't have to deal with this. Annoying! Anyway, thanks for pointing it out. I will update. Been looking to move off of godaddy servers for a year or so, and will find someplace that includes a server valid certificate. For temporary measure, I have put the godaddy provided cert on that site (free for first year and this site was just put up in January), but the thread here did not immediately reflect the https updates that I made to the post. Maybe it will resolve over the next 48 hours. I also tried serving them to the forum here using google drive. That did not fly either. I will work it out and once again, thanks for pointing it out. I spend very little time working on my own sites as I don't get paid to do that!!!

And thanks for the kind words on the music. I will post some other stuff eventually and let you know!

Cheers~

Cool! I’ve been in the Dev space for almost the same length of time doing primarily .NET middleware and backend. I definitely don’t have the “UI gene” for doing front-end work. Dabbled in it a bit throughout the years but never was my thing. I’m in the architecture space now so even less in the code day-to-day.

Nice. I have done some 3D work mostly for fun including making a copy of the my girlfriends house where I live using Chief Architect. Good program but I am better in Lightwave. That makes me think, I should try and build some 3D PRS's!! Then I can have my private Private Stock!!!

That's cool. What I meant was that I'm in the Software Architecture space now. Sorry for the confusion. A buddy of mine runs a local music store and he's got a 4'x9' CNC machine and he's taking on a project of building a guitar for someone. It's mesmerizing to watch that machine work on a block of wood.

Right on!! Can your friends machine cut me a tremolo locking pin for my Steinberger XM2T (1989 full body bass with locking trans trem)? Been looking for years and everyone wants a minimum order of dozens. But with the new machines out there, it gets easier every day to do a one off. Let me know if you think that might be possible!!! I can give him a DXF or DWG of the item!!! I know there are several others on the Steinberger yahoo forum that would be interested as well! We could just never get enough of us together to meet a minimum requirement, even if we all bought two of them ;~((

I talked to my buddy and he wants to see the DXF file so shoot it to me when you get a chance. What's the material needed for this?

Wow! Cool!! I looked for the DXF file, and was not able to locate it (it has been 6 or 7 years since I last tried to resolve this and that is when I got the file). I did find the blueprint with all the specs, so I will create a new one in lightwave probably this weekend. I will also contact the yahoo Steinberger group and see if anyone else would be interested. Thanks so much for asking your friend!! Very kind of you to ask, and also kind for him to be willing to take a look!

Cheers~
