Happy owner of a beautiful 1999 Swamp Ash Special. Burgundy Metallic w/ figured maple neck. Some fretwear, as the crowns are a bit flattened, but no divots, just a bit of consistent playwear. No dings or scratches at all, like zero, which is pretty amazing given the age and the fact the guitar was actually played. "P" is missing from the headstock logo. Does the missing "P" mean it's now not actually a PRS? I'll be quite embarrassed if someone asks about it and I have to say "it's an ARS".

The seller said it would need a setup, but aside from replacing blackened strings, and a bit of cleaning, the setup is perfect and needs nothing at all, which is not bad for an ARS. Everyone appreciates a clean ARS I think.

The pickups have been switched to SD's. The originals were all in the case, and at first I thought I'd put the McCarty's back in, but it does sound very good as is. The middle pup was replaced with...an SD Vintage Rail? Bit of a head scratcher there, but it looks like a slightly different Vintage Rail than the stock pup. The others are a Pearly Gates and a "59.

But despite being CLEARLY shown in the sales photos, the guitar arrived without the women's underwear and dog bed which for some reason the seller neglected to send. They would have made excellent padding, although the guitar's smell might have been altered, so I guess I'm okay with it. Here it is:

That's a beautiful color! Those SAS's are really nice, and yours looks particularly top-shelf.

Re: the missing women's underwear--well, uh, I guess it could've ended up smelling kinda good or really bad in that guitar case (regardless of the dog bed odors, too). In the grand scheme of things, it's probably best that those were omitted and you can leave it up to "what if" to decide on how awesome that would've been.

Ok, so I've only had the guitar for a couple days, but I'm really curious about possibly putting the original McCarty buckers back in...

The SD's sound great, but now it's almost more like a great sounding LP-type guitar, and the splits are meh.

Any of you guys who have experience, do you think it's a good idea to put the original pups back in?

I like the sound of the original. I would put the original in. Especially if you’re doing it yourself. If you prefer the others just put them back in or get something else. Just takes a little time
