2006 Custom 22 Blue Matteo with Wide/Thin neck. Looks teal in person but the photo matches the MODCAT color. This is my first Custom 22 and also my first time trying the Dragon II pickups. My initial impression is that they're OK but not too dynamic or varied when rolling down the volume. I'll probably replace them with 57/08s or 59/09s, so if anyone has tried either of those in a Cu22 I'd be interested to hear what you think. I'll likely replace the toggle with a 5-way rotary too, if I find one that isn't priced like a "pre-factory" switch handmade by Paul himself ;). With those mods it should be ready to gig.

Congrats! Looks great, and my favorite color.

Definitely recommend 57/08 neck with 59/09 treble. I have that in my HB Spruce and I had that in my CE24 for a little bit.

Congrats!

I changed out the Dragon II pickups in my CU22, same year as yours, to 57/08s. It resolved everything about the guitar that I didn't like. I was really not a fan of the Dragon II pickups. I talked to Sean on the phone before I sent it in to have the pickups swapped out and told him what I didn't like about it. He said the 57/08 pickups would change all of that and from what I was describing to him would suit my tastes much better. He was right.

Jealous. Sold my 98 CE24 and have been on the hunt for a Custom 22 or CE 22 with the wide/thin neck profile. Good for you.

Thanks everyone. For once my photo turned out nice. And the rosewood board is really a nice dark color.

I think I'm going to try the 57/08s first, which I have in a couple other guitars. If I have a push-pull tone pot I'll go with that for now so I can split the neck, as I never really use the neck except for some clean funky stuff. Now that I think of it, is it possible to wire the neck so that it's always split/tapped (which is it?) without the push/pull pot? Would connecting the hot & split wires together do that? Or would I hook up only the split wire instead of the hot wire?
