Who is up for some sleuthing???

Here's my newest edition....

Some background: I was googling "Custom 22 semi-hollow" and I found this one.

2011 Custom 22 semi-hollow. Fire red burst.

Right away, I was attracted to the flame maple fretboard, but it's the red inlays that sold me.

Plus...I thought semi hollow CU22's were only available in 2010??

When I spoke with the shop, I was told that this is one of a pair that were made for a client in the Pacific Northwest...and because of that, the body wood is REDWOOD, with a flame maple top and neck.

I've NEVER seen redwood and maple paired together. So I was intrigued.

I bought it and received it today. Right away, I removed the bridge PU, to see if there were any notes.

It says "PS".....

Take a look at the photos....can anyone offer up any other info on this guitar??

Any comments or info is greatly appreciated!!

Tony

I'll be in my bunk.

(Well you asked for information, even if it was of the "too much..." variety.)

That is fakking georgeous...it doesn't have a private stock number, maybe some sort of special order or wood library run. Delicious...

that sir is a gorgeous guitar!!! You should also reach out to PRS customer service with the serial number and get the answer from them. Not owning a private stock, i can not state if PRS puts that in the pickup cavity. Those with ps maybe able to help

I'm gonna need a close-up of that neck. Not that I can help you in any way, I just want to see it.

Here are a few more shots----

Take a look at the headstock face. It's not flame, it's not quilt. It's almost like a burl or Birdseye overlay??

I might email Cust Service, but they are tired of hearing from me! (Hahaha)

I have christened her "O Canada" as the red and maple remind me of the Canadian flag, and the red birds remind me of red maple leaves....

I played it some this morning...it's really light and resonant. I swear it's lighter than my HB. Since I don't have a X-Ray machine handy, I'll just wonder if it has extra chambering inside....

A shout out to Jay at Emerald City Guitars for helping me with the sale :)

I would guess that since it isn't labeled as a private stock that would make it even more valuable as an oddity. Best score ever!!!

DIBS!

I guess it could be an employee guitar but seems like it would have been labeled as such. Great score and a rarity for sure!

I'm pretty sure that it's not a private stock since it has a regular serial number and MODCAT but it's still a beautiful and unusual guitar.

I'm thinking that the PS team is very consistent in the way they do things.

No PS labeling and number on the back of the headstock? No PRSh signature? No Paul Miles signature?

NOT A PRIVATE STOCK

however.... it IS a smoking ax, congrats!

A redwood topped guitar in chambered or semi-hollow trim is a great combination. The maple neck should add some great effect on the tone.

My guess it's an employee guitar since you can't get these birds as an option in the AP program
and as mentioned before no signatures on the back of the headstock ruling out the PS assumption...

Very striking guitar for sure

Congrats Mr Tony you scored very big...Enjoy

Always thought employee guitars were signed/labeled as such. I think it's either a special 1-off or some special dealer guitar or something. Definitely VERY nice! Excellent score.

Very cool piece! No PS headstock eagle or text/# on the back... but definitely some sort of one off.

Does it have 57/08's in it?

I think it's a special dealer run of some kind. I saw the MODCAT in one of the photos and entered it into the decoder.

Model: Custom Semi-Hollow
Top Wood: Maple
Frets: 22
Top Spec: Figured Maple
Top Grade: Could not find Top Grade 'P'
Neck Wood: Figured Maple
Neck Carve: Pattern (Wide/Fat)
Fingerboard Wood: Madagascar Rosewood
Inlay: Original Solid Birds (pre-2008)
Bridge: Tremolo or 2-Piece Bridge
Color: Fire Red Burst
Hardware: Gold
Treble Pickup: 57/08 Covered
Middle Pickup: none
Bass Pickup: 57/08 Covered
Electronics: 3-Way Toggle or Blade

Interesting that the MODCAT says the fingerboard is Madagascar Rosewood when this guitar's fingerboard is obviously maple. Maybe the P for the top grade does mean PS grade and this guitar does have a PS top even though it's not a PS.

It is a great looking guitar and I really like these semi hollows.
I know they did a small run of these after a few Private Stocks (one of which I have).
They were top notch even without the private stock label.
