I love my silver sky!
I know it’s a take on a 63 strat that JM has and loves. I know it’s not a strat.

I sold some of my toy collection and bought a brand new Fender 63 strat NOS I’m red sparkle anyway.
I couldn’t resist. I’m a sucker for sparkles.

it comes this week and I cannot wait to compare the two!

anybody else do anything like this?

I demo’d many custom shops before buying my Silver Sky. I thought they were excellent but the Silver Sky had the neck and tones I personally preferred. I probably will add a custom shop in the future to compliment my Silver Sky’s. Likely something in a 50’s flavor with a soft v neck.

The one thing that frustrates me with custom shops is the guitars with the specs I like inevitably come with some degree of relic which I’m personally not a fan of, so I may need to custom order my own. The problem then is it’s hard to justify paying that much more for something that will play second fiddle to my Silver Sky’s. But I’ve made wholly irrational, impulsive decisions before so who knows…

You’ll enjoy comparing them and, you never know, you might even prefer the new one! The Silver Sky is a great guitar, and my favorite Strat type, but every player has their own preferences, so anything’s possible. I do have a Fender Strat as well as a Silver Sky, but they definitely sound different and aren’t based on the same year, like yours. Let us know how it comes out.

I will keep you updated.

I’m hoping they are different enough to keep. But if not, one will be sacrificed to upgrade my tele.
I was playing the ss last night and it’s amazing and awesome at the same time.

I have 3 strats but somehow have never played a SS. I guess next time I'm in the guitar store I should give one a try.

My local shop gets several CS strats in, seeing the prices online blows my mind...$4,000 plus for a bolt on neck guitar with a painting finish ?:confused:

But no one blinks an eye here to people paying well into the 5 figures for a Private Stock. Fender CS instrument pricing is another example of you get what you pay for. Pick up one of those and compare it to a production line strat. No contest. Oh...and sparkle paint is notoriously awful to work with which is why it often comes at a premium.

Yep. I've built 3 sparkle guitars and they take FOREVER to get right.

This. My custom shop is noticeably better than the USA deluxe that I own, and the deluxe is not a bad guitar at all. By the same logic you could say "$2400 for a factory made strat copy?" about the SS.

You could indeed. But then you play one and realise exactly how good they are.

Im not a huge strat fan, and I’m definitely not a PRS fanboy, but (and it’s just my opinion I suppose) the SS is the first ‘S’ type guitar that has really raised my eyebrows with how well it played and how great it sounded, straight into an amp with no effects at all.

I've been really digging Cory Wong's tone recently, and I hear he often goes direct into the board (and mostly on position 4).

There's so many jokes I could make about this post, but I'll take the high road. ;)
