I'm very happy with the guitar for the most part. However, the top has a spot where the finish is cloudy.

This wasn't disclosed in the sale description and it wasn't noticeable in the pictures because it looked like camera glare.

I expressed my frustration to the seller, whom didn't seem to care. I passed on a really sweet Rosewood Neck McCarty in mint condition for this guitar, so this whole experience is bittersweet.

Other than that, It sounds absolutely amazing!

Debating on exploring a potential return claim or just keeping it.

What would you do?

Not sure how to embed photos, so here is a link:

I don’t know that it would bother me. I basically accept that a used guitar is going to have something that isn’t like new. It’s 16 years old.

I think you’ve got to decide if you’d have bought it with the cloudiness or not. Then you can decide how much the seller’s response bothered you. If you bought it through Reverb, they’ll give you some money back one way or another.

It really doesn’t matter that you passed on the other guitar. In a sense, you passed on every other guitar in the marketplace, too.

If I like the guitar, I’d learn to appreciate its uniqueness and enjoy it.

I would have picked the McR instead so there's that. Seller should have disclosed but it's a used guitar and there's gonna be something. If you can live with it see if you can come to a resolution or return. It's that simple.

Toughy. Guitar looks cool, sounds great, but it should have been disclosed. Period.

Only you can tell if it is going to bother you. I think it would bother me, but I can only speak for myself.

I can’t tell where the cloudy spot is from the pictures. I would be disappointed if I had bought it and wasn’t expecting a significant blemish. Unless it really didn’t matter to me I would either send it back or ask for a refund big enough to make me not care about it.

I am sorry to hear about the disappointment. That is a tough aspect of buying used guitars online. I recently had a similar issue with a SC594 I purchased. In the end, it comes down to how much you are going to fixate on that cloudy spot going forward. If it is something you will continue to think about, it may detract from your enjoyment of the instrument. That would be enough for me to return it and get something which is a better fit for what you wanted. Call me shallow, but the visual aspect of the guitar is important to me or at least it should match what I thought I was buying. If I purchased a Players grade guitar and found an "extra" ding, that's no issue. If I purchase something which is supposed to be in great shape and find a defect which is always going to stick out to me, returning is the right call.

Best of luck.

I was watching this guitar so I know the listing.
The owner/seller stated in their listing:
"I'm calling the "condition" good VERY conservatively. There's some common fogging on the pups and one very small indentation on the back of the neck doesn't go through the wood. It's so small it won't photograph. Rare #50 of 150."

There is no mention of any finish fogging or finish issues other than the mention of fogging on the pups and an indentation in the back of the neck.

Obviously it's up to you @Jhideout if you think the price was worth it.
For me, those pickups are awesome (Have you verified of they are indeed 5708's?), but if it wasn't ticking all the boxes between the ad versus actual guitar and the price paid, it would be a firm "return" for me. Plus what else has the seller neglected to mention that you might find down the road. there are risks in buying used, but I would expect someone to list all known issues in the ad or your just asking for someone to be disappointed and requesting a refund.

I'd go get that Rosewood neck McCarty

I contacted PTC to see what they would charge to fix it. Hoping to hear back from them soon.

I'm aware I have less than 1 week to decide about a return.

Good call about the pickups.I will verify if they are original right now.

Full refinish $$$. If you do a search there's quite a few posts on here that discuss cost.

Congrats on the 57/08's. Great pickups. This is what mine (2011) looks like:

However, I'd return the guitar ... unless you feel that you got a good enough deal that makes you comfortable with how it is.

My Cores each have a small ( < 1mm) ding or two but are great otherwise so I'm very happy to live with the dings since they were only 2K for one and barely more than that for the other.

Lots of fish in the sea, some with rosewood necks!

Yep, those pickups are legit.
Early, early stickers (gold and black) stated 57/08, then came (gold/black) 1957/2008 both unetched on the topside. Then the white stickers and etched batches started.

I dont understand the refinish talk on a guitar that just arrived.. If the angle is a discount to cover I wouldn't be optimistic for it to happen. Sure seller shoulda disclosed but its a common PRS issue and as you said you got a good deal. Good deals usually come with blems.

Ask to flip a couple bucks back for nondisclosure or return.

One of the best guitars ever made by PRS IMO. I have two of these and both have a special woody fat tone. I put it down to that batch of woods. I would collect more if one of my very few DIBS prayers came true.

Unfortunately cloudy finish is a blight joined to the hip with PRS. That and metal hardware and fretwire that tarnish like they’re under the sea. Now try that with Gibson; theirs don’t ever require polishing.

Luckily only a minority of guitars ever develop cloudy finish, and there’s always the PRS PTC refinish option available if the guitar is heirloom quality. “Got the TV guide, don’t need the TV”. Same principle here - good to know there’s a fix available in waiting. Now try that with Gibson; they’ll hang up on you.

And ultimately, cloudy finish is still better than cloudy pee.
