Hi,

This is my first post on the forum but I've owned four different prs over the years and they've all been amazing.

i just purchased a secondhand 408 that did not come with a spec card, I emailed prs and they told me it has a pattern thin neck and the modcat code confirms this, but to me it feels more like the regular neck I used to have on a custom 24 or maybe even the wide fat on the McCarty I used to own, is this possible? It definitely doesn't feel like the wide thin I had on the 20th anniversary custom 24 I used to own.

also when I opened up the trem cavity I see that the 6 bridge screws are actually visible through the wood in the cavity, once again I never noticed this on other prs I have owned, is this normal? Link to pic below

this has made me wonder about the authenticity seeing as fraudulent copies are coming out of Asia these days.
Is it possible to fake the 408? I really don't think it is as the quality is great but maybe not as great as the others I've owned.

The bridge screws are designed to go through and are on every PRS I've owned with a trem since 1991, including my new Private Stock CU24 30th Anniversary model.

Also, as you've stated, the 408 neck isn't a Wide Thin, it's a Pattern Thin. They changed to the newer Pattern necks several years ago, although they feel similar to the older necks to me anyway. However since all the necks are hand-sanded after being carved, they vary a little.

The difference in width at the nut between a Pattern Thin and a Pattern Regular is only 1/32 of an inch.
