Just picked up this mint 2025 Custom 24 Piezo 10-top in what I believe is called "tri-color sunburst." I had never seen a 3-tone burst before and thought it struck a good balance between classic and modern styling. This guitar feels like the combination of all the things I've liked about past guitars: custom 24 platform w/ simpler switching (never got along with the 24-08 switching) and pattern thin neck, piezo system, and more dynamic pickups. Jury is still out on the last one as I haven't gotten a good playing session in with it just yet to really test things out, but hoping what I've heard so far about the DMOs turns out to be true!

Congrats! That is a looker. I am not sure what type of music you play but I am enjoying the DMO pickups in my new guitar.
Thank you!! Your PS post was definitely encouragement to give them a try. I play a pretty wide variety of stuff, but typically more in the rock to hard rock end of the spectrum with some cleaner rhythm stuff in there occasionally. I am hoping the DMOs will have a little more bite and body than the 85/15s in my 35th anniversary. I like the DGT and Santana pickups for that reason. They just feel meatier where the 85/15s felt a bit flat. Will have time for a proper comparison over the next few days.

I haven't played the 85/15S pickups so I don't have a comparison point for those. It will be interesting to hear what you think of them compared to the DGT. I am not familiar with the Santana pickups either.

I ended up spending almost two hours doing set-up yesterday to really get things the way I like them. Had to move the trem down a 1/2 turn like you described in your PS thread in order to get the action closer to where I like it (around 1mm at the 12th fret) and make a small truss rod adjustment. I might still need to lower it another 1/4 turn because the low and high e saddles are bottomed out and they still feel a little high and seem to be throwing off the string radius a bit.

First impression of the DMOs is that I really like these pickups. They feel like they are maybe a little hotter than the 85/15 TCI pickups in my 35th anniversary and have more bass and mids which feels great. I think they're a bit brighter than the DGT pickups which I actually prefer since I can dial down the tone if needed. Really liking how the neck pickup sounds in particular. Haven't messed too much with the pickup heights so will probably learn more as I do that.

I found the DMO pickups to be a bit bright as well. The good thing is it is easy to tame that with the tone control. I really like the tone controls on PRS guitars. They work without sounding like you threw a heavy blanket over your speaker cabinet. I also found the pickups a bit brighter than my DGT. I was doing a lot of comparison sessions against by other guitars until I came to the realization that they are just a bit different than all of my other PRS guitars and then started exploring the tones within them instead of comparing them to everything. That is when I really started to like what they do. My dealer happens to have a guitar with the new McCarty III pickups in it as well as one with the DMO pickups in it. I asked them what they heard for differences between the two. They said that essentially the McCarty III pickups have a little less top end to them which is due to them being covered. They said from the PRS literature that the pickups are essentially the same except for the covers. I am still a little interested to know how they got the higher output level on these pickups with them being less resistance than all of my other pickups. They A2 magnets in them like my others.

I feel like someone on this forum mentioned something similar with the McCarty IIIs vs DMOs that Paul had said when asked about the two. Going to try to resist the urge to grab a guitar with the IIIs as long as I can…

They may sell them through the store at some point. I am sure there will be some show up on the market from people that got them in their guitar that didn't like them. There are more PRS models that have the McCarty III pickups in them than there are the DMOs at the moment. That may put the odds of finding a set in a better place.
