Thanks to everyone for your replies!!!!! Great group of people here for sure
We'll I had my first practice Thurs with the Vela (and brought the CE too).
First impressions - amazing playing guitar. I was able to get the action very low/comfortable with no fret buzz and the intonation is spot on. Finish - immaculate. I was worried about the painted/gloss neck, but no issues there - at least from the first practice.
Our band plays everything from hard rock to contemporary/ballad type songs. There is nothing that my CE cannot handle in that spectrum, but wanted another PRS that would be a great backup guitar. The Vela is unlike any of my other guitars - definitely has a voice of it's own. Sorta fits in between my SG & Tele.
If I had to pick an album/band that this guitar nails the tone of - Black Crowes 'Southern Harmony and Musical Companion" comes to my mind. It does sound really, really good through my Legacy 1/2 stack - even came up with a new original song Thurs night with the Vela!!!
I do think I'm going to need a pedal added, just to add just a little "umph" for solo's. Looking at the Wample Tumnus right now.
Can't wait til the next practice to try 'em together. Thanks again everyone!!! - Bodie
