Ok, I got this 2 weeks ago and waited until after the honeymoon period to write this.
I freakin' love this guitar.
I had a 2003 goldtop Singlecut a few years ago that was a killer but I traded it off in a fit of stupidity. I made up my mind recently to get another so I sold off some stuff and started searching. I found a few real good deals but they were a little over budget. I saw this one on Reverb and thought about it for a few days. It was priced right but I wanted bird inlays and this one just had dots.
I made an offer anyway and the seller accepted it. Lets just say this was cheaper than a new PRS S2 by a good bit. It was advertised as a 2002 but after I received it I saw it was a 2000. First year of the Singlecut and the year my daughter was born. Even better. Then I saw the build date on the hang tag. It was built on my son's birthday. How cool is that?
It's completely stock and from what I can tell, the rear cavity cover has never been opened. The screws look untouched. I had never tried the #7 pups before but after playing them for a few weeks I like them. They sound good on everything I like to play. I usually swap pups and change wiring around but this one will stay as is. It doesn't need coil splits or anything else. It sounds magnificent IMO.
The color is McCarty Burst according to the MODCAT and ,while not a 10 top, it has a really nice wide flame.
I did make a couple small changes. I installed Gotoh locking tuners because I like easy string changes and I already had the tuners on hand. I also installed a set of Tone Pros locking studs so I won't really have to readjust the bridge for a long, long time. The last thing was purely cosmetic. I had a set of the newer style PRS pickup rings and put them on. I just like the look of them.
This one is a keeper. I let my last Singlecut go and I will not make that mistake again. These early Singlecuts are such damn fine guitars and this one is just perfect for me. I don't even think about bird inlays now.
