2 necks...6 pickups...42 frets...10 positions...

I had a really cool NF3 in a one-off sprayers choice that I sold to fund another PRS, and of course regretted it. Things often work in multiples for me when I find a guitar I am really searching for...as was the case here. I think I snagged the last two used ones on God's Green Earth. Both used, both in really nice shape (EC-) and both at the magic grand mark, so a decent deals to boot. The Charcoal is a 2011, the Scarlet Smokeburst is a 2012. Both have Phase IIIs.

The plan was to keep the one I likes best and resell the other. I don't think that's gonna happen ;) I cannot really pick a winner - they sound pretty much identical (as they should) and brighter than I remember my previous NF3. That was a rosewood board, these two are maple, and much snappier than I remember my former. Ring dots are cool on maple. I put a forum TRC on the Charcoal one because it looks badass on there.

Aside from the PS a few months ago, my latest guitars have all been strat-ish-ish, with necks in the "minimally finished" category. I forgot how good these NF3 necks feel.

Did you ever notice that NF3 cases are like an inch or so shorter than other PRS cases? I did not know that...

Congrats on the double whammy score
now all you need to do is join them together in a V shape
and shred on them like Batio :star:

Hell of a pair, congrats! Still need me some NF goodness someday.

Oh yeah! You got my totally excited by the title, and now I think you should totally make a NF6 out of the 2 guitars (you can sell me the left over body and neck if you like :p ). 5-way switch and 3 x on/on/on DPDT mini-toggles for North/Both/South pickups in each position.

Carl,

Coming from another Carl (but not quite as cantankerous), I really dig your NF3's. Congrats.

I just happened to have my 513 case and my NF3 case stacked one on top of the other in my "studio" (I am using this term very loosely) and guess what - they are the same size.

I also have a maple neck (cherry red) NF3 and I am in love with the neck feel and agree that the maple neck results in some bright tones.

Enjoy

Carl
