Is there a simple breakdown for all the different PRS amp flavours? I was at the shindig yesterday, and they had a bunch of purple amps (I lurv purple)....and the paisley ones look spectacular, as do the stealth/charcoal...but not sure which one I want. I'm mostly into clean tones, but wouldn't mind the ability to rock out some once in a while (but I can do that with pedals, so not really a necessity).

My current favourite amps, for reference: Rivera 4x10 Quiana (my personal favourite) and Clubster, and a Fender Deluxe Reverb Amp. I play seven strings, but I'm not a metal guy -- I like mostly jazz tones (even though I'm not a jazz guy).

I'm tempted to get a 4x10, but didn't they discontinue that? So I guess a 4x12 and a HXDR? Or do I want to go after one of the older models, either a 4x10 combo or cab+head?

If you like Clean, I would try the Custom 50 or even Custom 20. Get the head then you can pick you cab to play with. I believe they still sell the 4x10 cabs. you will love the cleans these amps provide. and the dirt is as good as anything out there...

+1
Hard to argue with that suggestion.

If you're looking for a solid pedal base and focus on clean, also consider the Dallas family. Fender-like lineage, if Fender were run by genius wizards. They take pedals up front flawlessly. They even made several 4x10 combo options that you can find on the used market or order one from CAD (their custom amp department). Then you can pick any finish you like.

Thanks guys. Yes, I was actually eyeballing one of the Dallas 4x10 combos out there. Will have to look into what the "Derek Trucks mod" is...

Will also check out the Customs.

And since I have a couple of Riveras, you know I appreciate the Fender comparison.

I had a Rivera-era Twin II for 30 years, so I get it. But my SuperD is so much head-n-shoulders above the Twin with EL34 character and a 3D air that few amps can match. Selling the Twin was tough but was the best decision I've made in a while. Doug Sewell's work is absolutely amazing.

Yeah, I looked around a bit, the Dallas line is discontinued, but there are/were quite a few variants -- w/Derek Trucks mod, Dallas from Hell, Super Dallas head -- you're talking about that last one, yeah? Or do you think (yet another!) 4x10 combo (there are a couple on the used market) would still have the magic?

I am really loving the MDT, though, so maybe I'm done and I just still have GAS because of the recent purple offerings.

I managed to work up a nice case of purple GAS, too. Man, those amps are cool looking!

Considering I got a P245 in violet (pitchers) as much for the top as for the guitar...yeah, at the very least, I'm getting one or two of the 2x12 cabs with the fascia. Basically trying to decide between the Archon 100 and the Custom 50 for the head if anything, I think.

It would still be better if they put out the 4x10 in the purple with the violet (flame-like) fascia. I'm a 4x10 guy.

A call to your fav dealer should yield what you're after. To quote Paul, "gimme your credit card...no problem".

I already talked to both PRS and my dealer -- the 4x10 is not in the plum line (lollers), but they do still make the 4x10 cab, and the charcoal/stealth/whatever it's called is still pretty hawt, so I'll be getting that, and I'll just be happy that the heads will be pretty.

I have yet to play through a PRS 4x10, and would love to hear a tone report when yours arrives.

Will do -- though I'll have to take it over to my real guitarist friend's place to do so -- I don't really understand the difference between all these different amps. I mean, I can hear the difference between the jangly British one that you mentioned elsewhere, and most every other amp I've heard, and I know what a Marshall is for, but for example all these different flavours of amps -- PRS or otherwise -- elude me.

I do already have the MDT 4x10 combo (it's a custom, so it had some modifications) -- all I can tell you is that it's really sweet. It's got a squeakiness and a purity to it that has me playing longer than anything else I've had yet (Rivera Clubster, Fender Deluxe Reverb, Rivera Quiana, Fishman Loudbox Performer). The MDT isn't as heavy as the Quiana, I'd probably be willing to lug that over his place once.

Oh well look at that: that. (Answering my own question in case someone else looking for the same information runs across this same thread.)

Now I need a breakdown of the legacy stuff -- Dallas/Super Dallas/Dallas from Hell/Derek Truck mods/Debbie Does Dallas (oops, sorry, showing my age); Sweet 16/16+/etc.; Sewell; Blistertone...
