Why?
Do they suddenly sound like crap if they are?
I believe only SC250’s and SC245’s made when they split the original Singlecut model into 2 are weight relieved.
<EDIT>Possibly the first run of Singlecuts post “lawsuit” were also weight relieved.
Agree.
Who cars..
I have a dynamite 2003 LP Standard that is a little under 9 lbs and weight relieved. Sounds and plays amazing!
My 2007/8 PRS SC250 is weight relieved/chambered. It's sounds awesome and plays just as well.
I am a big guy and have been I loved in body building and power lifting since I was 17, so while I don't find any guitar particularly heavy, I admit that even a small amount of weight hanging on a bum shoulder can cause issue. I have arthritis and tendinitis in my left shoulder and my LP bothers the shoulder a tiny bit does t stop me from using it, but I start to feel a slight ache. The PRS which is barely over 8 lbs, I don't feel any discomfort.
I used to have an 11 lb LP Standard that sustained well, but sounded dead compared to my weight relieve LP.
So, you never know, if it sounds good, it is good.
There is a myth that weight relieve guitars sound thin and bright. That's BS.
Either piece of wood is unique.
My SC250 is the lightest singlecut I have ever owned and it is the biggest and fattest soundlding too, so I throw that theory, out the window. I have had heavy guitars sound thin and compressed.
